Halo 2 Keeping Original Xbox Live Alive, Limiting Friends Lists Ever wonder why you can't have more than 100 friends on Xbox Live? Microsoft has always been hazy on the answer, but a "high-level source" within the company can point you in the right direction. It seems that it's all Halo 2's fault. According to G4, the problem stems from the fact that Microsoft continues to support the original Xbox Live architecture, which was not designed to support more than 100 friends. It's not an issue for the Xbox 360, but to make the upgrade, Microsoft would have to put an end to the original Xbox Live. And that would mean putting an end to Halo 2. That's easier said than done though, it seems. According to G4's source, they are reluctant to kill support for the still-popular shooter, which consistently tops the original Xbox Live's activity rankings. There's no timeline for finally disabling the original Xbox Live, but if there's "real vocal support" for moving on from Halo 2, then Microsoft would strongly consider it. Until then, you'll have to do some pruning if you want to add anyone else after your friends list reaches 100. Source -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So who would have thought. One of the things holding Microsoft back is one of it's most popular titles. It's so ironic it's hilarious! Discuss.
I really don't mind all that much. I mean, I have open spots on my friends list still, and many friends I have on their I hardly play with anymore. I really don't care enough to give up Halo 2, however, that's for sure. I still play that game.
To Choose more friends, or kill the most poplar Xbox Live games for Years? Id rather have LESS then 100 to save Halo 2, from being closed because of people wanting more friends space. If they do, then there messing up big time.
Xbox Original and Xbox 360 are completely different systems.. The update would have not effect to it. Anyway the Xbox Live of the original is different as well, and not supported anymore.
NO. Because then I would be able to get more friends requests. Which means more of a hassle. I have all my friends on so I don't have to deal with random friend requests.
We dont need over 100 friends. What we do need is a nickname system for the friends we do have. So instead of it saying "1ownzNoobz has signed in" it should say "Mike from work has signed in."
I laugh at thee, all of thee, and all of the thees that whined for a larger friends list. I laugh at thee because I realize that Microsoft probably just made this story up, so that people would get off their ass.
Ya. Ya know, because, Bungie TOTALLY made that statement. [/sarcasm] The statement was put out by Microsoft. But, yes, replace Bungie with Microsoft and it's really just there to give them an out so they don't have to listen to all the complaining. You don't need 100 friends. I've only have about 25 and none of them are on when I am. If its 100 friends or kill Halo 2 for 100+, I choose 100 friends. Overall, I like Halo 2 multiplayer better than Halo 3. The biggest reason I play Halo 3 over 2 is because of the amount of people on. I can never find a group on 2.
Is 100 friends really that big a deal? @X5: Why would they use it as an excuse? What was their excuse when people complained about the 100 friends limit on original xbox live? Blame Halo 1? I oftewn hit the 100 friends limit, but I then just delete the random people who sent me FRs. What if you could only have 50 friends??
I wish I had 100 friends...*sniff*...*sniff* but anyway, I'm in the same boat as X5 (unless he kicks me out), because I think that they could easily find a way around this, but don't want to.
this really doesnt bother me cause i only have 62 friends and i know most of them IRL and i talk to most of them
I don't have enough friends to really complain about the 100 friend list. It doesn't matter though. Halo 2 will die when it dies, when that time comes people can have more.
