A couple of years ago I played for around 6 months with my main character being a level 27 Gnome Mage (I currently despise gnomes and their smallness). However, I'm just about to finish a 10 free trial on a new account. I want to play more, but I'm wondering is it worth when I'm starting my Sophmore year August 10th. What do you guys think? Should I get a month of WoW or not?

Well the real question is do you want a social life? Not to be harsh or anything. I've never played it, but I know a kid who does and he is completely addicted to it. If I were you I would just stop.

I have lots of friends that play world of warcraft and still have social lives. They are called scene kids.

WoW's addictiveness effects those who lack self-control. I have enough self-control to limit my playing time.

I live out of town, and can't drive yet anyways. It wouldn't effect my social life too much.

If you want to keep a good social life, just be aware that once you hit around 50-60, you'll progress extremely slowly and won't be able to do those 40/20 people raids that take hours on ends. And without those, you won't get any good gear.

    Qft.

I can assure you, it didn't affect my social life whatsoever. Thats only if you spend all your time doing it.

    I didn't know you played?
That's because you didn't have much a social life to start with :p

Anyway, I have a friend who plays. He frequently says things like "I wish I could quit this stupid game" and "God, it's like sucking my life away". He plays it constantly, and he'd rather stay inside and play instead of hanging out with friends.

But I suppose it's your decision in the end.

I used to. I got bored because I had a social life so once I got to those levels it was too boring. All I could do was grind.

I played it once, I got to about level seventeen and almost bashed my own brains out on my keyboard from boredom. Suffice it to say I don't support anyone playing the game lol.

It doesn't really start getting fun til the late 20's, but even the more fun aspects of it feel like a chore. The actual gameplay itself isn't fun, it's the collecting, exploring, and molding a character into your own that's intriguing about it.

Don't you think that's a bit extreme? I doubt it would really be that bad...

I wouldn't get WoW. I played for 4 months a couple years ago. It was fun at first but eventually you just have to start grinding, and it gets very boring. If it was cheap, like 5 dollars a month, I'd say sure, but it's not worth it.

My neighbor plays WoW. She is pretty social, too, but it's kinda annoying to be talking to her on AIM and she doesn't reply very often.

    This.
It's just a stereotype... black people aren't all gangsters and british people don't all have bad teeth. WoW players aren't necessairly addicted. It's a stereotype. Most players even joke about it in-game.
It's the player, not the game.

IMO, you should hold out for Diablo 3. The only thing about WoW is that it costs too much per month and I already pay for XBL so I'm a cheap guy... Although I'm not sure if Diablo 3 is free. I'm very sure it is, but still not 100% sure. Still, it's gonna have amazing campaign and multiplayer. =D

I realize this. WoW is a fun game, and a lot of people play because it's fun. Not because it's addictive. However, WoW does contain addictive elements that keeps a lot of people playing more than they should, and keeping them coming back for more.

My Info Tech teacher told me about his senior class last year. They all had plans for their futures. Four of these students were accepted into DeVry university. They ended up not going because they were addicted to WoW. They now average 8 hours of WoW a day and live with their parents. I think they can be considered addicted. When I was addicted to Runescape I would not admit I was addicted, but I was.

Many WoW players are addicted. It effects their lives, and sometimes the lives of those around them

Diablo 3 is not free... and since you assume that, I'm going to assume that you don't know that much about it. It's a different genre than WoW.

Self control and help from the people around you. Even though it shows that they had none, their parents should've stopped them.
