Does anyone know of a FREE program where I can convert .vob files to .avi or any other windows movie maker compatible files that won't leave a watermark or have any other gimmicks?

It's one of the most versatile and efficient encoders/re-encoders out there.

Zamzar.com is a free online file conversion site. All you need to give it is your email. Also, it won't spam you, my friend uses it and he's spam free.

I'm assuming he's going to be converting DVD movies to .avi to put on his iPod, given the context. In that case, don't do online sites; it'd take a day and ****ing forever. I used VLC to convert. Pretty simple.

If you're converting DVDs, then try iSquint. I'm not positive if it does .vob or .avi, but you can try.

If you wish to convert a VOB file just rename the file extension to .mpg and it will work. :)

VOB is the format used by Pinnacle capture devices,
And Mpeg4 is the only format compatable for iPods, not Avi.

Encoded Avi is the best if your capturing clips, but converting these clips is going to result in huge clip size and a minor quality loss. You'd be better off just getting different software that's compatable with VOB, like Sony Vegas.
