ODS3 will be a firefight variant. With Halo 3:ODST approaching quickly, many forgers have made mini firefight variants. But there's something missing. The ODST drop pod. I've been working on about 3 other ODST maps with different layouts, but I believe this is the best one. ODS3 will have you and 2 other ODST's hold out in a base agants the covenant for a certain amount of time.

Note that I'm only showing you small parts of the base, I left out lots of major parts on the inside(I don't want to show you everything..)

I'm about 80% done with the base. I need to tidy it up, finish some other parts and add some aesthetics. The base is where the ODST's will try to survive in.

No pictures of the covies yet. All it is right now is a few geomerged blocks. The covenant will have vehicles.

ODST drop pod and ship. Ship looks like poo, I know. It's not done yet... I'm only showing you the drop pod, not how it works.
The finished version will have a covenant side, and a fully working ODST pod that you can control when you want to drop.

The overshields will make it so that you do not die on landing.

    One hell of a drop.
If anyone wants to help test when it's done just PM me. And I'm open to any comments or suggestions.

I'm hoping to get it finished sometime in the next 2 weeks or at least before I go out for vacation.

THIS MAP IS FINISHED AND CAN BE FOUND HERE:ODS3

The drop pod is a very neat idea.

I'll be glad to help out in any testing so long as there isn't any damn Battle Rifles on this firefight map. >.>

Looks pretty good so far. The idea of the dorp pod is just great and i cant wait to get my hands on it when its done. The building looks pretty cool so far, but the drop pod comes out of a fish correct? Is there a picture of the ship so far?

There will be BR's. It's tough fighting an onslaught of 13 elites all armed at the same times.

?The ship right now is a big hollowed cube in the sky with a hole for the drop pod to come out of. Nothing much to see right now. Unless I have the money when I'm done, that's all the ship will be. The ship will 'blow up' within 45 seconds of the game, which means the ODST's have to gtfo quickly.

There's gonna be cover and shiz later so the covenant have a better chance at getting to the base. And I was trying to go for an unfinished deserted base feeling. When the full version's up you'll see why. Think of this as an episode of the forgotten spartans, but there's a high probability of the heroes dying.

I know the theme is a bit cliche, that's what I was worried about as well. But so far it's worked fine, and there's something new about it. I was trying to go for a version where the ODST's drop in and have to kill enemies holding off in a base. Didn't go so well though. When ODS3 is finished, maybe someone else can use my ODST drop pod idea to make something like that.

Now, I've played the Firefight on ODST already. And, there were no drop pods in them.

There is basically these hallways/rooms were the spawns for the people are. No drop pods.

No bases were present in the levels.

Oh, and there weren't any BRs either, the only rifle were Carbines.

But, I can see this if you want it ODST Firefight based then go ahead and move forward with the project.

Yes, I'm fully aware of that. But what is the theme of firefight really? Surviving for as long as you can, and that's basically what I'm trying to go for. I just added extra things(such as the drop pods). There are not BR's in ODST? Well I guess the new SMG and pistol are good replacements but sadly H3 doesn't have them. I'll try this map without the BR's and see how this will turn out.

When I was planning Lumumba District, I was really trying to find i way to implement a Drop Pod just like you did, but I could never find a method that looked good and worked. You could improve on the aesthetics in the hangar, since they seem a little messy. You could also put the weapons in the Drop Pod instead of next to it, or even have the weapons fall to the ground with the ODST (ODS3?). The only other thing I would work on is improving the area the ODSTs make their last stand, since one buildings isn't usually doesn't have much replayability.

We'll see how this turns out. Anyways, the map is finished now and I'm hoping to get it tested sometime tonight or tomorrow. I fixed up the drop pod a bit so it works smoother, but it will never actually be perfect. The chances of it staying together for the entire drop are really low. Barricades aren't stable objects and will want to separate. The building is pretty big, and even then you could still go outside. The hangar will blow up in 30 seconds, so I don't think aesthetics for it are too important.

that is an amazin idea, do you think people could create something like that with damaged blocks or another movable object?

The theme of a drop pod is that it's a pod. So I'm not sure if blocks make sense. They also don't merge as well as barricades do.
