Socialist?! Come on, you've been watching to much Fox. Taxing the rich at a higher rate is a fair concept, and when put in it's proper historical context the proposed increases on the top one percent seem pretty low at about 45%. Take a look at the folowing chart and then let's talk apples. Using Obama's 45% tax rate for the wealthiest of the wealthy let's see how it actually works out. Bill get's 650 apples each year to share with his family. The government takes 162 of his apples each year leaving him with 488 to survive on. Fabian gets 29,000 apples each year and the government asks for 13,050 apples leaving him with 15,950 apples............poor Fabian. How will he ever survive? How many f#$@ing apples do you need to be happy anyway? We are all in this together here in America and we all have a vested interest in making sure all levels of income are able to survive and thrive. The lower and middle class are the people that buy the services and products form the wealthy class. Shouldn't they realize the importance of a healthy middle and lower class? Living in this country is not supposed to be a game of Lone Wolves. It's should be viewed as a Team Game. Who cares how many headshots you can rack up while hiding with a sniper? If your team ends up losing it's time to change tactics.
"Pornography, depicting consenting adults, should be legal for the adult population." *Strongly Agree*
We shall see. Correct. Also correct. This is an example of a leftist policy. One wouldn't argue that because you are on the right side of the graph you lack the capacity to have leftist ideas therefore Barack Obama must be on the left side and the graph incorrect. However, the graph is comprehensive and does not take one point and express it more greatly than all others thus we achieve the democratic party and the republican party on the same side of the graph (and, in fact, the same quadrant). My argument was, a new form of taxation being implemented is not a leftist thing to do, though, how you carry it out can be (such as making the rich pay more) which should have been expressed more thoroughly. "That and the load of "pro-environment" legislation, designed to create even more taxes..." Correct. Environmental regulation, in and of itself, does not make you leftist. How you tax and the discrimition and rationale you use could make it leftist, however, creating taxes isn't leftist and creating environmental regulation isn't leftist therefore doing them at once should not be considered leftist as you stated in your original post. More information would be required of you for me to have seen the point you were making and to have accurately responded the first time. I don't understand your logic: "...ruining small business sure is" If you're designing legislation to fight big business you are promoting small business. A leftist thing to do, in your opinion, is ruin small business, which doesn't make sense in the context that liberlism is fighting big business, in your opinion. That's not true and even if it were oligopolies and cartels are much more effective at delivering lower prices and higher quality goods. A small business or an entrepreneur can deliever lower prices than a monopoly but that doesn't that it will automatically win. An entrepreneur is in the business of making money and can be bought out. Those who do not wish to be bought out will be undercut by the monopoly using tactics similar to John D. Rockafeller. The monopoly will lower prices to put the entrepreneur out of business and then raise them higher than before to regain its lost profits. Competition is inevitable but how you handle that competition can prevent a macro-competitor.
I realized that I made a bit of a typo there, I meant to say "Though I may not know as much as you." My mistake. The logic I was using is that currently the government is trying to undermine business on all fronts, both big and small. They are increasing taxes and minimum wage, which hurts small business, while simultaneously passing "pro-environment" legislation that can shut down or severely fine big business. I am not saying that increased minimum wage is a new thing, but it is impacting small business in conjunction with a number of other government policies.
Don't get me wrong. I don't think what Obama is doing is very right (as in the direction) on the economic scale, however, you have to try really hard just to be leftist as a whole. I disagree with Obama, I disagree with leftist economic policy and I hate the direction the country is headed. It happens.
Pretty much what I expected. Basically, I think every person should be more important than anything else, however I do think government should be large in order to regulate important issues and fiscally I believe that sanctions are needed, but the government still needs to protect small business from larger companies and monopolies.
Libertarian in the sense presented does not refer to economics. It refers to personal liberty. Is anyone here actually a fan of Wal Mart or am I the only one?
I try not to, but it's right next to Sam's Club which is by a mall where I hang out with my friends, so I end up going there anyways.
I am a fan of Wal Mart and Target and most other stores like that. They are incredibly convenient for just about everything.
But why? I work at a small business. Its a grocery store. It's dirty, infested with bugs, and has less product selection for a higher price. I get paid minimum wage. Wal Mart pays a dollar more than minimum wage. Wal Mart blasts you in the face with air when you walk in so bugs can't damage the product. Wal Mart keeps itself clean. Wal Mart has a bigger variety and lower prices. Your Wal Mart may be different because ours in the second largest super Wal Mart I think. Regardless, its great. I don't shop there much because I don't have a reason to but I don't try to avoid it.
I was dead center in the middle. Lol that's strange. I agree. There is nothing wrong with wal mart. HOWEVER. When I left WI and went down to Florida for the weekend... JESUS CHRIST, I thought I was going to get mugged. There was a cake splattered in the isle, spanish speaking people everywhere, and the shelves were just a mess. It was GHETTO. I lol'd so hard, cuz as we walked out my dad said "DIRTY!" right as we walked past a black guy, and the guy was like WHAT THE **** MAN.
Oh my god, what did you do? We have walmart in Britain now. It's called Asda. It's been around for a while but a few years ago it got bought over by walmart. Asda doesn't dominate the supermarket business however. Tesco does. Tesco are like Walmart but their managers and CEOs are all arseholes. Their goal is to put a tesco in every town in Britain. The only ones that don't have Tescos in them are Sheringham (which is near where I live, and believe me they're trying to build one there), and another town up North. Every year they appeal for planning permission to build a Tesco in Sheringham. And every year over 90% of the council commitee turn them away. But they never stop trying. It's been going on for over 10 years now. So is it really good to have a big supermarket everywhere? They're blatantly not wanted in some areas. Why can't they just not build them where they're not wanted? They're just trying to monopolize.
