I have the Turtle Beach X4 headset, and I love it. With the 5.1 surround sound you hear everything around you. I prime example is on Vahalla, I was busy sniping by the "valley". Someone was crouching through that portion, in hopes to assassinate me. With my headset, I heard his footsteps from behind, and managed to jump around and pull off a no scope.
Another example would be during a Gears of War 2 match (several actually), when I tried to find the final player on the enemy team, the noise their character makes would guide me in their direction thanks to the surround sound. And you can buy them in Best Buy, so you don't have to order from the internet.

Yeah, you should buy Astros, I don't own a pair but I was at an event and they were so F*ing pro. I could hear every single footstep around me and you could adjust your ingame effects volume, or your teamates volume. THey're pretty sick man.

I own a pair of Astro A40's and before that a pair of Sennheiser HD595. I really have to say wearing these while playing Halo are advantageous. Back when the Head to Head playlist was available I loved wearing my Sennheisers, because I loved camping sniper tower on blackout and people loved to crouch up to me and try to kill me. I would purposely leave the bubble shield on the ground in hopes they would pick it up, because I would hear them pick it up.

I believe, Astro A40's are unparalleled in quality, sound and looks. I suggest getting the Mixamp with the Astro A40's if you're going to get them. Anyways Astros come with around ten different wires for as many kinds of hook ups you can imagine. The microphone is detachable and replaceable. Where the microphone hooks into the panels are replaceable and movable. Meaning you can take the mic out and put on side panels so the headset is like regular headphones. In addition to that each earpiece has a swivel which allows you to take the earpieces off without taking them off of your head. Astros are light and look really good.

They are the headphones where you can hear the game's sound through them as well as your teammates talk. Here.

Otherwise, I own the turtlebeach x3's and they are great in sound quality, they are comfortable, and really help to hear footsteps etc. (CoD, Gears, Halo.) But the only problem I experience is that they do tend to get hot. Not a huge issue but kind of annoying. Also the battery life is about average. Great headset otherwise.

I dont have time to really explain, but IMO.

If you LAN alot, get Astros

need wireless gi for Turtle Beach (X4 only, others are no nos)

if you can handle wires, IMO the best overall is the Tritton AX Pro
