I was wondering about this after I played Halo 3 with some friends, then switched to CoD: WaW. I noticed the aiming was different, and I felt as if CoD:WaW had better aiming. Now I'm pretty sure CoD4 and CoD5 have the same aiming system, so I merged them into CoD. Halo 3's aiming is a lot more simplistic if you ask me though.

Now I'm gonna ask you this - Which game has a better aiming system?

well its a completely different control layout and reasons for "aiming". halo is super advanced stuff while cod is modern or oldschool. you actually have an aim button in cod which helps you see better, while in halo you're a superhero guy that can just...see that well. In my opinion, the aiming system is better in COD, but the aiming in easieness (not a word) goes to halo. In halo its a simple click of the analog...

It's just left trigger in CoD...

I don't know if you mean overall aiming, or just the reticle, because I prefer both in CoD.
Given that you don't need to have to Aim Down the Sights(ADS) in Halo, because you have neural implants and a hyped up super suit that weighs half a ton, and all that goodness.
Most games with ADS are modern combat, Call of Duty and Battlefield: Bad Company are the only two FPS games I own, but it helps a LOT more.(I doubt Fallout 3 would count, as it isn't fully ADS, it just brings up the gun for more control...)

Also, in Halo, you have Auto-Lock, which semi-keeps the crosshairs on the enemy, which is the only reason I can think of that the aiming system in Halo would be better

The aiming system in COD is more realistic, but i like not having to scope/aim to actually hit a target

Halo wants you to get headshots. It's too friendly for beginners. Call of Duty on the computer ftw, no aim assist.

Thats why there is hardcore... no aim assist either... unless you are talking about auto aim, in which case, even if they let you turn it off it is hard to tell the difference.

To the OP, neither one is better. Call of Duty's aiming system is good for Call of Duty, and Halo's aiming system is good for Halo.

I hate how the aiming is in CoD. In real life you don't have to put the gun up to your eye and walk slow to aim in the direction you want. In CoD, unless you have Steady Aim on the shooting without aim spread way too much. I'm pretty sure you don't shoot 25 feet to the left when you don't "aim."

You do when you shoot from the hip, which is what you're doing in COD when you don't aim.

...CoD's aiming system is as realistic as it can get in this generation of games.

You actually have to aim down the sight if you want an accurate hit, in real life. And I'm pretty sure the spread in real life isn't that bad, but most games have to take into consideration balancing it for everyone. Also, maybe the game developers of CoD wanted people to aim down the sight, and not just run around shooting people and jumping, like in Halo.

Halo's aiming system is less realistic, but better for a game.

    Gameplay > aesthetics > realism

I don't like being unable to shoot because someone is shooting me or whatever, I prefer it when skill dictates who wins, as opposed to who shoots first.

COD's is much more realistic and IMO takes a lot more skill than Halo. Halo you just point and shoot. COD you have to aim down sights, deal with weird iron sights, then shoot, and control recoil while you shoot. Getting to learn each weapon in COD takes a lot more skill as each weapon has different range, recoil, iron sights, mobility, etc. In Halo almost every weapon is the same as far as shooting goes, it's just a matter of how big the reticule is. Sure we can argue about how it takes skill to USE a BR or no-scope with a sniper, but let's get real. The BR can become second nature pretty quickly and no-scoping isn't a skill your forced to learn in the game.

Both have pretty bad Auto Aim sometimes, I mean REALLY bad, CoD4 does it just as much as Halo, but I enjoy CoD4's for realism, and the fact, it has real sights, and you can zoom in, also Halo has a good Aiming system too, you can't sight in like on CoD4, but both is still very fun.

I don't get why it matters at all.

While CoDs is more twitch based, Halo's puts more emphasis on dodging. Both bring their own unique gameplay style to each other. If I have to pick a favorite, I'd say Halo's is terrible for Campaign and single player but brings about interesting gameplay for multiplayer. CoDs is brilliant for both Single Player and Multiplayer.

So, CoDs one wins by default I guess.

Pressing "R" first is a skill some 12 year olds would argue is tough to gain.
