I've seen a lot of remakes. I'd like to see them get there own thread. Not just Halo remakes but all game remakes. I'd like to be able to find all the Gears of War or Counter Strike...etc maps in one organized thread. I know some folks don't like remakes. However, there are a few slow learners that can really benefit from trying to remake a map. If your goal is to make the map as accurate as possible, the correct sight lines, cover placement, etc. Then it will benefit you when you try to undertake your own original map. By doing an ACCURATE remake, thinks like: "Oh, I see why that cover is there, it's to aid in setting up an ambush for anyone coming through the door." or "Wow I guess if that building was further too the left you can see the middle a little too clearly. I'd better not move it because the snipe would be too powerful." I can totally understand why some of you naturals do not like remakes, but others can really learn a thing or two about good level design by reverse engineering them. Anyway, it would be nice to see a specific forum to put all remakes in. It would not only aid in finding them, It would also keep folks from passing up a really sweet original map that happens to be named Turf because the designer owned a PS2 and never played halo until part three came out and he got his first Xbox (360 that is). As a side note, most people I've talked to, came to this site to look for remakes. They may have stayed here because of the original content. But I've noticed a lot more guest logged into maps that fall into the remake categories than the original race map design or the movie sets. I know you mods understand the need to keep the newbies coming back for advertisement purposes. So pay attention to this thread!!! Even if this will never happen, it would be nice to hear what you all have to say on this particular, popular topic.
Did you even read the thread? I agree with what the OP said completely. That is how I learned to make my maps more original and functional.
If this was the case, then why is there a forum for movie sets and not in threads. You cant tell me those are more popular for remakes, espcially in the download department vs. window shopping. Because this is a thread you are showing us and not a forum. And this thread, like the one you pointed out, is out of date, and almost all remakes on the site are not in it. I don't think one sandbox one is in there. There is not a moderator to move or adjust a post in this thread either, nor will there be. However there are just as many remakes being made with the release of sandbox as there are mini game maps, or race maps. These get there own forum, because there is a logical reason to seperate them. I think map remakes have a logical reason as well. 1. Most maps like turf or complex, or what ever use common one word names. It would frustrate me to know end if I wanted a good counter strike remake, only to find the names were the only think the maps had in common. There some time I won't ever get back. 2. Out of respect for the original map designers(the folks responsible for the retail). I'd be ticked off if I stumbled on this site, and found a map I made, only to discover that someone has passed it off as his own. 3. Most people who come to forgehub for the first time looking for maps are usually looking for remakes. This would help them navigate the site better. And again, I know there are threads for remakes. I have checked out the different remake threads on this site, and would not have made this post if they were adequate. I also understand that the mods here have been doing this a while, and a map remake may not be as appealing as say a movie set. Just understand to the newcomer the feeling is opposite. Remakes are way to popular these days not to get it own place on this site other than a thread that gets buried in a week with cobwebs.
yea i agree, remakes are what i love to make, and well i believe they deserve their own forum. Even though it probably wont happen we can still hope that it would be added. In a way Remakes are a lot harder than any individual map made by a person because the player is not only judging you on his or her memories of how the map played but is also judging your map on how accurately it looked to what they remember. But that is just my input.
Couldn't of said it better myself. Look. I know that there is only so many popular maps that are remade. But slow down and think about it. There are what, 50 remakes of warlock/wizard alone. Why not put all of them in one forum. Let the best one be on the top of the list. Let everyone else envy and strive harder. Create a new forum and watch the amount of Quality remakes double, because the folks who specialize in them know that their post last a bit longer because their effort will be recognized in their own right and not judged amongst original map post. There is no need for remake contests, because it SHOULD be obvious that people will make these without these honors. With a legitimate forum, you could expect a more vast variety of remakes from games that have not been seen yet. For no other reason than the honor is within the forum itself. Who can make the BEST remake, regardless of what game it came from. As a child, I grew up with the NES. I matured with the Genesis. However, most people my age grew out of games. In fact, as far as I can gather, most folks grew up with the PS1 and matured with it's successors. I played these too, but the doors to all classics. Regardless if your making Atari's combat, or a version of Pac-Man complete with gametype, all fall under remakes. Or a forum titled classics if you feel a broader forum is in order. Mods may not like this next statement, but I don't care about popularity. I care about what is right, so here it is: To all sister sites, I know there is a few of you but I only know of one, forgive me(I'm busy making maps in forge and unreal(that's where the money is if you want to make it)which is why I'll mention one, but you can replace it with the name of your site if you please) I'm speaking to you forge battle or any who will listen. This site is too big to recognize the few who are asking for this on this post. And more importantly, those who would had they seen this post before they logged off, because you know the majority of users visit the map forums and not the ones this post is on. This is your chance to differentiate yourself as more than just another clone of this site with the same old forum titles. Because like it was already said, it probably won't ever happen here. Is this a challenge to you forge hub. I guess it depends on how you take it. Like I said, I could care less either way. I'm stepping on not one toe here, but if you feel like I am anyway, then realistically you feel like this type of forum makes sense and it's missing from what is otherwise, a flawless site. But all of you were new here once. Try and remember...which remake where you looking for when you first registered.....?
