Just because you don't like a song that many others like doesn't mean its NOT the best thing out. Music is all about opinion, you can't argue right or wrong, best or worst, yadda yadda. Bear in mind, too, that I do listen to more underground music than mainstream but that isn't the point. There is no be all end all to music, because, as everyone has their own tastes, everyone has different likes and dislikes. If a few mainstream songs are all someone needs to enjoy music, what's wrong with that? Hasn't both the artist and the audience accomplished what they wanted in making music to catch someone's interest and find music that catches their interest respectively? That's what music is all about; not parading around and spreading your beliefs that "if all you listen to is mainstream music, you're a lazy conformist and you should should listen to more underground stuff (or whatever you wanna call it) because it's better." Now you're trying to dictate people's tastes to CONFORM to you own listening habits. Hmmm....

Look dude, this entire time you've been missing the point of when I said "conformed music" and then picking out some things I never said and attempting to use them against me. If you didn't already have the brainpower to notice, it should've been obvious that I implied "people who listen to music just because everyone else listens to it." In my original statement, I didn't even mention the word "mainstream" but that seems to be the only thing you keep raving about.

I'm a big fan of new-ish punk bands like The Offspring, Billy Talent and Cancer Bats, a lot of metal bands like Mastodon, Disturbed, In Flames, Protest the Hero, All That Remains, etc. and rock in general like Foo Fighters, Flogging Molly and Rush. I listen to video game music from time to time like Machinae Supremacy (Bit-gen music + Metal, anyone?) , but normally not when I'm with my friends, I can draw a line to my gaming addiction, which is the first step to recovery ;)

I hate a lot of mainstream rock, they all sound like Nickelback, or the Canadian version, Theory of a Nickelback. I'm also not fond of rap, but I don't ignore all rap artists, just most of them. Pop music makes me sick, the fact that bands that are on children's TV shows become so popular escapes me.

You mentioned mainstream twice in your post before this lol. But that's besides the point, I see what you're arguing now, I misunderstood what you were getting at. My apologies. Haha I feel kinda stupid now.

Hey I like Theory of a Deadman, actually I listen to like a total three songs by them but still. Haha and actually Chad Kroeger, the lead singer for Nickelback, is Canadian too, as is most of their band members. I don't listen to much of their music though, I can only tolerate four songs by them.

    LIKES

I enjoy most music. Big fan of almost any kind of rock. Metal, Punk, Screamo, Classic Rock, RapRock( like 3oh!3 or Brokencyde) Some hip hop (not much) Techno.

    DISLIKES

I will tolerate most music but not a big fan of country, especially Taylor Swift, and any hardcore rap that i can't understand half the rhymes. And most pop music just irritates me.

Well I'm partial to indie rock. Love the best band you haven't heard of to use a phrase. I'm also a big fan of alternative rock. Some top bands on my list would be Modest Mouse, The Shins, Ugly Casanova, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Silversun Pickups etc. although most are known, I always give a great chance to new bands, because a lot of the time they are really great just with untapped potential. So if anyone has some great indie rock to recommend I would appreciate it greatly :D.

Well I give most genres a chance, but one that has not proven itself at all is Pop. Always simple uneducated and incorrectly formed chord progressions that for some reason most teens love. It is one of the few genres where I get physically angry if I hear it playing. I'm also not a big fan of metal or it's sub-parts, but they at least have some good songs. Country is the same way as metal.

Ok has anyone heard of a dude who goes by the name of Mogwai? A good friend of mine showed me some of his music and this guy is amazing. It's all no lyrics and it just kicks ass. Seriously you should give him a quick listen.

Most Metal, rock is good. Classic music isnt too bad, the kind that isnt extremely boring where 1 song is 25mins long with a fat lady singing.

Fav Bands: Megadeth, Metallica, Disturbed, Slayer, System of a Down, Slipknot, CKY, KoRn, All That Remains.

    You're a ****ing idiot, because:

Rap is a lot harder than you would imagine, i'd like to hear you try to rap. You ignorant ****.

And a fat lady singing is usually stereotypically opera, way to get your genres confused you ****.

IMHO I think it's harder to do this:
    YouTube - Deltron 3030 - Mastermind

    than this:
I imagine playing an instrument would take some skill, but we are comparing vocal wise.
YouTube - All That Remains - "The Air That I Breathe"

But of course my opinion is biased, I could be wrong. But that doesn't change the fact that you are pretentious ****.

    Like:
My favourite genres would have to be soul and funk. James Brown being my fav artist of all time. Him, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin etc etc
Also like indie and classic rock; too many to mention but stuff like jimi hendrix, rolling stones, the beatles, the who etc etc..
    Good music essentially.

    Dislike:
Manufactured pop crap, bands like the pussycat dolls. They just sing.. and its all just to become famous and celebrities rather than making good music and entertaining people.

I like all types of music. Except for really really heavy metal. Like, when the vocalists just scream into the mic for about 30 seconds at the top of their voices.

Other than that, I like all types of music.

Actually, Vinny, and I'm not tryin to argue with you here I'm just providing an unbiased point because I enjoy both genres greatly, but the vocals in the song "The Air That I Breathe" and any song by All That Remains or similar artists are much harder in a different sense.
The dirty vocals, or screaming in layman's terms, require a good deal of practice and training to master, especially if you wanna preserve your voice. It requires the ability to control your breathing with your diaphragm and the muscles in your throat. And after that, you need to know how to practice the dirty vocals while causing only minimal damage to your vocal chords that will heal easily. Most singers that scream will, at some point, sound noticeably worse at singing later in their careers due to the strain that the dirty vocals put on your vocal chords (a good example is Avenged Sevenfold's M. Shadows, who isn't at all bad, but he has lost some of his ability).
Rap is harder in the sense that, well, its really all vocals. Essentially, good rap is poetry just accompanied with good beats and a nice melody or something of the like. Rap takes a lot more creativity in terms of writing good lyrics throughout the entire song and taking those lyrics and making them flow into a beat that makes listeners wanna hear more of the song.
