Is it just me or does anyone else think the rating system needs to be changed. There seems to be way to many assholes on FH that like to give maps 1 star ratings no matter how good the map is. I believe they should only let like the guild testers or the mods rate maps so that people can cruise the forums and look at maps that are rated at their level and not like 2 or 3 levels below.
I could not agree more with this (happened to alot of times), or you could have it so when someone has rated a map you have to say why and possibly their names show up on like a seperate page with the comments when you click the ratings for a map.
I was just thinking of starting a topic about this, it is ridiculous. My map will be at a 5 star rating, and without recieving any comments it suddenly drops down 1 or 2 stars, and that really gets me mad. There are rarely any maps that are at a 5 star rating, because there are those few people that are jealous and have to make the really good maps even with theirs.
You see, there is only so many mods, and they only have so much time. They are busy running the site, keeping it in order an all the other sundry activities that go along with being a mod (including world domination). They simply don't have the time to rate each particular map its true score. That is where we, as a community, come in. We have to be good and responsible members of this site and not give extreme ratings to a map just 'cos it needz moar interlockz. So if you see a map that is deserving of a better rating, rate it accordingly, and critique the map effectively telling the mapmaker where he has gone wrong, things you'd like to see in a future version and advice. Everyone wants that sort of advice, not "Good map, 5/5." Personally, I do not pay much regard to ratings. In fact I have never once rated a map. I criticize it, give advice and generally try to be helpful. If you do not feel that what you are saying is useful or you have nothing to contribute, don't say it.
You actually use the star rating system? If you like a map then download it, give it a good rating on Bnet and leave some comments in the thread! I totally ignore the star ratings.
I say that while that would make sense, it would be too hard to keep up. It's better to have some rating than none. I say that if you want there should be a detailed rating system accessed by clicking on the stars that shows you who voted. If you think a vote was just one of the one star for fun votes, you could report them and possibly have the rating negated, if fitting.
I personally, would like there to be a review team. Perhaps use the forgehub tester's guild for this. I ignore the rating system. Its inaccurate and I sometimes see featured maps with 4 stars. It needs to be removed badly. I would rather see a professional review on the map rather then jerks going through threads rating one star for the fun of it.
see im not just saying the mods im also sayin the testers guild and maybe even some new guild and i like the idea that someone said of making it so everyone that votes their name shows up, basically every vote is public
Shouldn't this be in customer support? And yeah, lots of people have already suggested this, I don't really know why this system hasn't been abolished yet it makes really good maps look bad when people decided to be douches and rate them terribly.
When I hadn't joined, I used this site to get maps of course. I thought that the maps were professionally rated so I only looked at 5 star maps. This also could be a problem right now. I think it needs to be abolished, for it could be causing problems.
There will eventually be complaints from some people that it's unfair, that those so called privileged members get to do certain things that we can't. Maybe someone says that they are rating their own maps higher than other maps. Corruption. It's not true, but people will think that. Also, people may become testers guild members just to be able to rate maps. this means that mods will have to spend more time looking for those members, taking away from really important stuff. It's the same deal with a rating guild. While it seems a good idea it, like communism, will not work in real life. the idea of using a public rating system has some potential, however.
I am part of a ForgeHub Judge Team what do you think of our rating system do you think it works? ForgeHub Judge Team
Review Hub - Forge Hub I'm willing to consider removing the star rating system from the map forums after a wider debate
i didnt even know there was a star rating system, but honestly, i dont think you should worry abbout that, just worry about the feedback they post.
When you click on a map thread, go to the top right bar, where it says Rate Thread. This opens a little pop-down window thing, where you can give it a rating: Excellent Good Average Bad Terrible
I know what you're saying, but I think the main issue is that if you compare a 5* map to a 2* map, which one would you rather look at. I mean my map Deer Hunt is like 3* now. However, it started strong as a 5* until someone rated it 1* because he misread the post. I just wish people wouldn't be so ignorrant, naive, and quick to judge.
i dont believe it should be removed i just believe it needs to be revamped(i think thats the word) maybe if all votes were public no matter what, people wouldnt just post 1 star rating because they want that map to look bad then give there maps 5 star ratings....... or if the review team, testers guild and the mods were the only ones to rate the ratings wouldnt be a problem, no one should have a problem with that. ------ maybe even create more groups dedicated to reviewing maps and giving ratings if review team, testers guild and mods aint enough.
And there are people who make extra profiles to vote their maps 5 stars when everyone else is rating that map low but for valid reason...
