I'd have to say the normal border.. But it just looks like you slapped on the render after you blurred your background.
Actually, it's a stock. I blurred the bg of the top layer and sharpened the focal of the bottom layer. I erased the parts of the top layer where the blur is over the focal so that it shows the dude in the bottom layer. I also included some B&W gradient maps and decreased the opacity a little bit.
You're right, it looks good. Maybe add a small light c4d on the back of him? Also I think a border like your current sig would be good.
