Is it possible to have a door opened by hitting a button, yet close it again by hitting another button?
Yes, but more complexity means more materials, and more materials means less materials for the map. I havn't seen one made before, so the first attempt will probably be buggy.
I was probly about 80-90% done on this one switch that I was creating which used it so that a gate would open and close but when open it could allow vehicles and people but close it only aloud people. It was pretty elaborate and took up a lot of materials. W/ sandbox I could probably try again and it would work but I am not quite sure on that...
there are so many ways to make a reseting switch. A impressive one is have a warthog upsidedown, braced so it wouldn't move and a fusion coil on it, when a player flips the hog, the coil falls of, into a cannon, and into a grav-lift. The grav lift is destroyed and lets a movable object fall, opening a door. In reality a player could have just shot the grav lift, but what fun would that be? Like i said before, there are so many options for switches, i'm suprised someone hasn't posted a guide yet. And if you are planning to intagrate this competitively, be advised that switches hinder the pace of the game, most of the time.
Actually i saw one a while back on foundry didn't take up much materials and worked effectively, no bug's at all.. worked amazing! if i can find it again, i'll post it up here . it even had a doorbell and a peep hole..
The one that worked with powerup's as buttons? Yeah that one was sweet. It was "hydraulic door" I think.
Probably only do-able on Foundry, but it would chomp away at budget/item limit. I know something like that has been done before, but I like your thinking.
i sort of have one ill post the link. it was my first post on forge hub so it might not be very good. http://www.forgehub.com/forum/aesthetic-maps/64621-open-close-door.html
It does not matter if it is good or bad, your learning therefore it is good. you learn as you go and as you go you improve, thats how things work.
thanks guys... It's sort of hard to explain, but in the SW battlefront 2 map Kashyyyk, there's a sort of "destroyable switch" where if an object is destroyed, the main door opens. then, if the switch is repaired, the door closes again. I believe this would be possible in H3, and I'll try some of your suggestions. still, if anyone has any other ideas, I'd be happy to hear them.
Before making the map, make the door itself to make sure it works the way you want. message me when you post it, i'd like to see your finished product.
I have the perfect switch for this actually! I would like to guide you to the "key switch" in this. Though, instead of using the regen, you could just have them throw a grenade at it. If you don't understand it, or need help just pm me or FR me (add in the request who you are though).
