Strategic Options Add-on for Halo Wars

    Published April 21, 2009
Halo Wars™, the best selling real-time strategy game on any current generation console, mixes up the battlefield like never before with the Strategic Options Game Add-on Pack, available in the coming weeks exclusively on Xbox 360®.

Build the stronger army in Tug of War.
Strategic Options ushers in the next wave of battle for Halo Wars with three new game modes which dramatically change the multiplayer experience and challenge you to rethink your battle tactics.
Defeat waves of enemies in Reinforcement.

    • Keepaway Mode: This is the Halo Wars adaptation of "Capture the Flag." Teams battle it out to capture a free-roaming Forerunner Sentinel to score points before the other team. Capture three sentinels to claim victory.
    • Tug of War Mode: This mode is all about having a stronger army than your opponent. Defeating enemies is essential, but success is determined by a combination of the army, buildings, and resources left standing in the end.
    • Reinforcement Mode: All active battle units are provided in successive waves. Adapt to their tactics and use the ever-changing set of units to outwit and outlast the enemy.
    Capture the Forerunner in Keepaway.
Strategic Options also adds four new Achievements worth a total of 100 points:

    • One and Done: Score the winning point in a game of Keepaway against Legendary A.I.'s
    • Pull Hard, Pull Deep: Win and never trail in a Tug of War game
    • Freak on a Streak: Gain at least 15 population from a single wave in a Reinforcement game
    • Living Loving Bug: Obtain a Scarab during a Reinforcement game
Haven't tried Halo Wars yet? A free demo is also available on Marketplace. The full-featured demo includes two levels of the Campaign mode, plus a one-on-one Skirmish battle between the USNC and Covenant.
    Halo Wars
Set in the iconic Halo universe, Halo Wars predates the original first-person shooter Halo. Experience the early battles between the UNSC and Covenant, the far-reaching conflict that has been diligently followed by the masses in the blockbuster Halo series.

Ah ok I was just curious if you had understood it better, it sounds like a survival or horde mode lol. "Keep away" sounds like oddball more than capture the flag and "tug of war" sounds like territories.

From the sounds of it, the game gives you units and you have to kill your enemies units before your enemies next wave of reinforcements come in.

    New maps would be nice.

It'd be good to be able to make bases bigger too (like have an extra size upgrade)

reinforcement mode sounds confusing, i had to read it a couple times.

It is that you do not make units and the game provides you with unit if one of yours dies and you have no control over your units

    DLC is unislamic.
Releasing frivolous and empty expansion packs goes against the word of God as passed down by Muhammad (pbuh).
Using the hard work of honest developers to squeeze out every last cent from a video game franchise is a slap in the face of Allah, all Muslims, and decent human beings.

As a devout Muslim, I am offended and insulted, and I demand Microsoft halt this kind of conduct or may Allah punish you for your unwarranted greed.

We will petition for a change in MS's "corporate strategy" else we will issue a fatwa against Microsoft and a worldwide ban on your products. Allah may not be so forgiving. If MS does not change its conduct, then as a company it will perish along with every other enemy of Islam. Your cash monies and property and all your assets will turn to dust - INSHA'ALLAH!!!

Who is developing the DLC? Is it the remnants of Ensemble?

Sorry for the double post but I come with new information.

The DLC just came out today.

To clear some things up, Reinforcements has you start out with a base as usual. But, when the timer goes down, all your money is taken away and you're given units equal to the amount of money you had and you're given a new 250. So, if you have 100, you'll only get a Grunt, Jackel or Ghost.

You can only build Spartans and Heroes and the reason to build a Hall, Summit or War Factory is to upgrade your units.

Keepaway is pretty simple. You go attack the setinal and you keep the unit that captured the setinal alive for 2 minutes.

It seems you can still destroy the enemy base as I had a Scorpian destroying the enemy halls.

Tug of War is more or less Standard except if you gain a huge lead in the Tug of War, you win.

Is it just me or does 800 MSP seem like a huge ripoff? I don't think I'm going to get this.

I so want to know how you know a gametype sucks before ever playing it. It'd be very useful for me.

Ill buy it. 800 points isnt much to ask for when tons of people spent months developing something.

Plus, i have a job and im not a cheapass.

I bought it with the 800 points left over from buying Mythic.
Well, at the very least it gives a nice break from getting hog rushed.

Well, yea I have a job too, but 800MS? Honestly? This is more shitty than RE5 online having to be bought. I'll just wait for the price to hopefully go down, as I don't imagine too many people will be buying this. Actually, I won't be too surprised if they decide to throw in a free flame decal hog in with the package in an attempt to sell.

In my opinion, something like this should only be worth like 300-400MS(or just free), and it only comes with 100G of achievments, which hardly seems like it should be priced at 800MS. But since it came with achievements, it'll sadly never be free.
