Ok, so my friend (who happens to be rich) has an Xbox and a PS3. So he just recently bought Bioshock on the 360. However, his brother hates the Xbox and will never play so he bought the same game just so he could play it on the PS3. Granted they have the money, but seriously who would do that?

More to the point, who is stupid/rich enough to do this?

Dude, people do what they want with their money. Maybe it's account and rep stuff.

Those kind of people make me sick, I just dont understand how anybody could do that. I suppose it's just the way I am brought up, you never waste money.

Yes, but I think it's stupid buying the same game for different systems. I mean they cost $60+ to buy each. That's $120 for two of the same game.
I know it's their money, but i think it's a waste of money.

Edit: My parents taught me never to waste money...this comes under the wasting category.

Well, same here. I've always been in a rented house, average 2 pairs of shoes a year and I only have my 360 cuz I got it from a tweek for $20. Halo was a gift. xD Socio-economic class. (AKA...poor)

But still, I've learned not to envy people for things like that. Most of the time.

Maybe he just really likes his brother? But seeing as how I would never own a PS3, I would never buy the same game for two consoles, so no.

The only time I would see this as a sensible thing to do is for the PC and for a console, the game on a PC is often almost a completely different game.

If I could afford both a 360 and a PS3 and had a sever fan boy reaction to play only 360 versions of games, If someone got me a Bioshock for the PS3, I wouldn't take that as an excuse to get the 360 version. Quite being a fan boy and don't waste 60+ dollars on a game you already have.

I had an xbox 360 console, and I bought my younger brother's one for christmas (mind you that was a summer's worth of saving and work). Is that a waste of money?

People should be allowed to spend their money as they will, thought people do not have to like it. But, compared to other forms of "wasting money" this is pretty mild. Sure, they already had the game but it's a single player game for 2 brothers. Sharing and taking turns never works, trust me. With a second game, both can play at the same time. Also, it is for each of their own consoles basically. Sure, one might not have the 360 and the other may not own the PS3, but they seem to have decided which they prefer.

So as I see it, at least they didn't spend 5 grand on a hooker.

    well put.

yeah you might think that sounds stupid and a waste of money but that's kind of in the eye of the beholder. someone else might look at you and say "you spent your money on an xbox?? videogames are a waste of time, go outside to have fun".

and as long as both of them played the game and enjoyed it then i really don't think it was a "waste of money". A waste of money in my mind was buying Turok for the 360, not being able to beat level 2 because of the crappy control scheme, then never playing it again.

I bought Goldeneye Rogue Agent for the Xbox years after came out for the Xbox so I could play on live because my gamecube could not play online. No one was online. And I realized how awful it was. Granted it was only $5 for the Xbox when I bought it.

To answer the question, yes I could, no I would not.

I had gotten my 360 by trading in all things video game related that I owned at the time.
I also have purchased almost every game I own or have owned.

My brother on the other hand had gotten his 360 for his birthday along with a game.
Our mom pretty much bought most of his games and he currently owns three games that I own.

I have done this on several occasions ... for Morrowind on the PC and Xbox namely. I have something like 4 copies of Morrowind and its expansions.

I also have 3 copies of Kingdom of Heaven on DVD. The special edition (2 discs), the Definitive edition (4 disc tin) and the Directors cut on Blu-Ray.

Well many of us that also have a PS3 only buy it for the exclusives and buy all other games on the 360 because of the faster load times and [negligibly] better graphics.
