If say the American government decided to make something happen they could always crash some sort of artificial meteor in africa. I see no reason for the government to destroy themselves (however I would not be surprised).
Well, why would anyone care about Africa... I kid, I kid... Why would the Government waste money on that, people will question where the money went, and if people were to find out, that the meteor was artificial nothing would happen.
It was just an example. Besides, if the government decides to massively broadcast the world ending in 2012 they wouldn't get much tax income from Christmas gift buyers.
when I first believed in 2012 I thought were all going to die. Although there are many signs pointing toward this event, If there is a god I dont think he would want to destroy what he meant to live. Right now I dont think it is true but in the next few years I guess we'll all find out the true outcome. Dont get to worried about things and just enjoy life while you can.
I don't want to start a God debate in here, but he already did it once. This world is sinning more and more every day... So it would not be to my surprise if it happens soon, but then. No one ever mentioned God...

When's the last time you heard from the Mayans? If the world ends in 2012, then the earth is flat and leeches sucking our blood can cure cancer.
The way I see it is that it doesn't matter when it will happen or not, because we can't control it. We should focus on the things we can control (i.e. global warming, fossil fuels, etc.) and if the world still ends then too bad. Although personally I don't think it'll happen.
The Mayan calendar was built around certain Astronomic events, one of which was the alignment of our solar system. The calender simply starts anew.

did you see the movie the moth man? that was based off real events that took place in the 90s (or somewhere around that time.) if they could predict those events why not us? i do it all of the time, i go to bed and have a realistic dream and thena few days later i'll live through what happened in that dream. i had this happen aroind 13 times that i can remember and this even helps me forge somtimes! anyway to get back on topic, mabie all of the mayans had my wierd dream thing, but they could do it upon comand! mabie they saw what was to become of us and said"aw **** they're boned!" and just stopped making a callender!
