Well, GH:VH has been speculated for a long time now, even before the confirmation of GH:M. Luckily, we finally have proof that it is being made. However, it's not the kind of proof you would be expecting. That's right, the achievements for the game have already been released, even before the game was announced, lol.

That's ... odd. Lol. I like that they have achievements like "5-Star these songs on Expert." That sort of thing was what made me like GHIII so much. It's a challenge, especially 5-Starring Eruption. That's should be fun. I'm willing to bet this will be released around October or November.

I have a secret to tell you about GH...they're all the same and you're supporting activision when you buy it.

Van Halen happens to be my favorite band of all time, and Eddie Van Halen is my favorite guitarist of all time. I would love to see the choice of songs, because there is a large amount to chose from. I would definitely love see see, "Aint Talkin' bout' love," "Eruption," and "Panama." They are my favorite songs from Van Halen. I am glad they are coming out with a guitar hero focused on Van Halen. I can not believe that they weren't the first choice.

Last time, I checked They had different songs. Thats like saying all shooting games are the same.

Can't wait for this. I just got metallica today and it seems like they really nailed the difficulty pretty well.

Although 3 will always be my favorite because it was harder and I liked the screen setup.

Just because they are the same doesn't mean they aren't fun.

Hell, I'll admit that Activision is probably the worst possible company to own the Guitar Hero name, and they are continuously exploiting this franchise and its fans. But, no matter how hard I try, I and many others just can't stay away from them.

Here is another source that details a German Video Game Rating Board including Guitar Hero: Van Halen in their ratings.

I assume that's the proof you were looking for. If you were looking for proof that these are the legit achievements, then I'm sorry that this Destructoid article was my only source. And, right now, it's all we have to go by.

I read an article today in Game informer. It debated whether or not music games were on the downturn and going out. Doesn't exactly look that way does it? But you know what the guy who argued they were dying was much more convincing than the guy who said they were on the upswing for a long lasting fad.

Sales have not been all too great since GHIII and RockBand, and honestly they beating it to death. Like the guy said, if anyone is going to drive a series into the ground and beat it to death, it's Activision. Short sighted as ever are there business decisions, says so true the two topics on this front page.

Smart move: Bringing back old popular songs you currently have rights too on a modern console.
Stupid move: Another planned and announced Band specific game which will most likely be launched six months from now. GH:met sales weren't amazing..and were only half decent due to it being Metallica.

Those sales are based off the sales of Guitar Hero III. Compare them to other run-of-the-mill games, and these things sell like hot cakes. They aren't selling as well when they were at their peak, but they still sell better or just as good as almost anything else out there.

Then why not release it as DLC?
Surely there must be a point where you just step back and realise you are buying the same thing year after year.

Numbers can be easily skewed. From a retail perspective GH:WT sold like ****. RB2 and GHWT bundles sold terrible. RB2 software did sell well. GHWT software quickly dropped in price (used) at gamestop due to 1)lacking popularity, 2) overstock. GH Metallica sold decently, but not epicly. Could be time of year.

It's an over-abundance of sectored audience games. Specific bands or genres don't impress large enough demographics, and thus people than feel there are "too many" music games that come out and disappoint them.

50 more songs on DLC could would cost about the same as a new game if not even more.

In all fairness, they do release somewhere around 3-5 new tracks every week. But, it still holds true that they are essentially the same thing.

Harmonix, the Rock Band guys, have released over 500 songs of DLC. Activision decides to bring a new game out every week though. Did you hear that Guitar Hero V and Band Hero has been confirmed? Activision wants to make as much money as they can, and is milking this product so much right now so that people will get bored and stop buying from both companies. Activion and EA only care about money, not their games or their fans, just money.

Band Hero has not been confirmed and there is no solid proof of its existence. Many have speculated, and a Harmonix employee mentioned it in a powerpoint, but so far that's it.

Give EA some credit, they've been working to come up with new and innovative titles like Dead Space and Mirrors Edge. I used to hate on EA, but now that hate goes all to activision. All they do is steal solid titles like prototype (yeah it's not legitimately stealing it, but they had no hand in the development of it), and milk the **** out of series like CoD.

I agree. While EA is still short sighted, they are making some progress and picking up new IPs.
