Ok, this is a little pet-peeve I've had for a while now. People who name there maps the stupidest names. I speak of course of maps in the sky bubble of sandbox with the word "sky" in them, maps on the main level with the words "sand" or "desert" in them. Or maps in the crypt with the words "Tomb" or "crypt" in them. It wasn't really a big deal to me at first, but with the addition of the new feature "sky pyramid" my dissapointedness has come to fruition. Really guys? You spend all that time making your map and then give it the stupidest name that you only thought about for 3 seconds. Try harder please?

I definitely agree. Whenever I make a map, I spend at least a day (on and off) thinking of a name. In school, in matchmaking, watching TV, whatever. A name is equivelant to pics in some ways. They both give a big idea of the map.

Now that you say it, I do see way too many maps with the name sky in it. But then again if it describes the overall idea of the map why change it? For example, I have a map named named "Tower of Power" that is soon to be posted. Not the most creative name but you can sort of have an idea what it is. But overall I don't like seeing this un-creativeness so much.

Agreed. I don't view anything with any word that could be a reference to a hornet or a banshee.

Well, excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me princess. It might be cliche to name maps uncreatively, but why does it matter what you name it in the first place? Hell, there's a featured map called Revelation. I don't think it matters what the name is. Gameplay is above everything.

How does the name of the have anthing to with with its ability to be good, the name should give people the insight on what the map is like.

I may be new at forging, but even I know that if you're going to spend all that time creating a phenominal map (to your standards), don't you owe it to yourself and your efforts to create a name that's worthy to crown your success?

Look at all halo maps created by bungie, they all had a certain feel to the names, in bungie's kind of way. We should take notice and do the same of our own names, instread of creating well thought out maps with half-thought names. You owe it to yourself to have a defying name for your great maps.

Well, that's just my opinion. I wont even release a map once it's finished until I have a solid name for it, or else I wont be taken nearly as serious as I deserve.

I'd prefer a generic name to go with Sandbox than the random crap names that are offen used. Just pick a cool sounding adjective that has nothing to do with your map? Tendency? Arsenic? What's the point of picking a name like that? My best advice: make a backstory and use a name that goes with it.

While it's nice to have a thought-provoking name for a map, I hardly see it reasonable to not be releasing your creation just because you can't think of a good name for it.

There should be a place where you can find map names that are good and not already taken. Like get a forum stickied with map names that people can claim.
So they don't keep coming out with a bunch of maps with the same name. Just a suggestion.

That's a great idea, although it may take some time.
Have a list in alphabetical order of all taken names for maps.

It'll require a helluva lot of updates, like daily or perhaps weekly - but that might be too long.

    Examples of good map names:

Pivotal - Its centered around a point, , hence "Pivotal"

Utah Mambo - An original name that could not be confused with any other map. Also plays off desert setting as real world setting.

Excavation - Foundation remake, hence "-tion" has raised sides which make it seem as though the center of the map has been dug up or excavated.

I swear you could switch around the names of the MLG maps and no-one would notice.

Utah Mambo was because it was a spiritual successor to Kentucky Tango.

Here are some map names I got from the dictionary that sounded cool

-Armament -Bedlam(chaos, confuse) -Cascade -Devastation -Exhume(bury, dig) -Fusillade(volley, barrage) -Graveyard -Hysteria -Impulse -Juncture -Kingdom
-Luminous -Magnitude -Nightfall -Oscillate(pulse, motion) -Peril -Quarantine
-Repository(depot, storage room) -Summit -Terrestrial -Unity -Vengeance -Whirlwind
    -X ray -Yacht(I couldn't find nything else) -Zenith(vertex, peak)

I only did 1 word for each letter of the alphabet and the words in the parenthese are synonyms to the word in front of them. Feel free to use them.(and add on)

There is... it's called a Thesaurus.

    Thesaurus.com

Type in a word and it finds words with similar meanings.

Yeah I know but I meant on this site so people who use it won't just type in skybattle or epicmap or coolmap or some stupid name. So I just thought forgehub members could just take a name for their map and go with it without having to research for it.

To Nemihara, I'm not saying that a map name should go before the actual map itself, I'm just saying there should be some sentimental value in it. For example. Silence's maps are all named after Norma Jean songs or albums, because he likes the band. The map name should reflect it's creator, and the map itself. I'm not saying that the map sucks if it has a bad name it's one of those pokedad alakazam "I am disapoint" moments.

Good Point, Dow. But if a map name that doesn't reflect the creator or itself becomes overly complicated and no one understands the meaning whats the point. When I see a very big map name that I don't know, I immediately assume it is an Competitive map on Foundry with perfect interlox and geomerging.
