HOTH PLANET Star Wars : Episode V Download Map : Hoth Planet - currently over 500 downloads. Download Game Type : The Dark Forces ( Infection ) - currently over 200 downloads. Description: "Where is the rebel base?" In this case, it's on the planet, Hoth. Yes I know that the whole "Star Wars thing" has been done numerous times in the past. With Sandbox, it is now truly possible to make a decent map for it. Ever since Avalanche came out, I thought of building AT-AT's attacking the rebel base. Avalanche provided us with the possibility, but you couldn't build much anything else. Sandbox provides use with a wide variety of sizes and shapes for pieces, which makes the possibilities for great creations... endless. I bring to you, my version of Hoth. Now mind you... this is not a beautifully forged map. I had to sacrifice a lot of quality to get the ambiance of Hoth. My intentions were to build the Rebel base into a mountain by using the various angled pieces to make it look like one giant mountain. Unfortunately the AT-ATs and Shuttles took up many pieces. I chose to sacrifice the aesthetics for the possibility of better gameplay. I was planning on using the Pen and Ink FX, but there was way too much glare for gameplay. It also made outside the map very dark, so I went with the Colorblind FX to make the sand look more like snow. I now present to you... Planet Hoth. Pics of map... Spoiler Planet Hoth Overview Imperial Side Rebel Base Rebel Hangar with Snowspeeder returning to base. seems like a good map, but there are some things i would suggest. snowspeeders should be banshees there should be elaborate bases the montain you are trying to create could be the same thing as utah mambo. build the base into the side of a big dune hill
god the pics take up more then half of this page maybe but i like the idea and layout and what not its uhhh i don't know what to say uhhh Great and yeah oh and the concept , its a great idea 4/5 P.S i should've put some more thought into this reply.
I felt that the banshees mimicked the Tie Fighters movement more. Plus the hornets allow the rebels to carry troops onto the AT-ATs. I originally had thought of this as a team slayer map, but I could not select default colors for the Rebels and Imperials... so I went with an infection game type with Darth Vader as the Alpha Zombie. The map is actually set up for all game types involving two teams. The Empire didn't have a base on Hoth, which was why I went with numerous AT-ATs and shuttles for protection. I originally had hoped for enough items to build part of a Star Destroyer for the Banshees to come down from... unfortunately I had a lot of limitations and needed to make a lot of compromises. I started working on my map at the same time as Utah Mambo was posted, besides... I don't like stealing ideas from others. I originally wanted two tunnel systems from the rebel base to about the middle of the map along the edge of the grid... both with sniper rifles... but the item limit made me rethink my entire idea. Utah Mambo had an original idea and I wouldn't want to take anything away from it by stealing ideas from that map.
everything looks great can you go inside th at at or anyhting else or is it just to look at cause looking at its nice to but wasnt hoth a snow planet i dont know cause i dont watch star wars that much but maybe you could have called it one of the sand planets but like i said i dont know much about starwars sso i could be wrong from what i see ther might be some balance issues but id have to play it
There are actually Imperial spawn points inside the AT-ATs. Each one has an opening in the top and bottom as well as a head/neck which can be entered... including the one on the ground. The two AT-ATs and two Imperial Shuttles have plasma turrets which can be fired if you are in the cockpits.
I like the 12th pic it is cool. I like how you used the colorblind effect to make it so it seems like snow and not the opposite. dl for 5/5
good **** dude. This looks great. you made not one, but two walkers. very impressive. I will be sure to make a map video for this one with your permission and my xbox coming back.
Three walkers, actually... the third is collapsed, but you still have full access to the cockpit and body. It also has spawn points inside of it. Feel free to make a video... just be sure to put my map name and my gamertag in the credits.
I am a fan of Star Wars and this is looking good. The way this map is made really impressed me.But I have a few complants.Starting with the Rebals escape. If you put some hornets there you would of made it resonable.I also don`t like the effect. It`s to dark, but good job.
Escape? What escape? There is a back entrance into the base, but no escape. You have plenty of time to escape from zombies in a hornet through the hangar. As a matter of fact, we had three hornets taking on Vader in a Banshee and took him down. Unfortunately there is no way to make it look like snow without using the FX. You only have two choices to make it look like snow, Pen and Ink... which makes everything outside the boundary pitch black and all the white reflectsto the point it's blinding. I used Colorblind, which is milder and you can see the back walls of the sandbox.
Love what you did with the animated picture, even though I hate Star Wars (the parodies are funny), the map looks very well-designed. I'll give it a try later. From looks, 5/5 Also, how did you do that animated picture in the first place?
Nice job on the idea i like it but i has a question... Why the hell spend the time to make the colors correct if the map is in Black and White?
It's easy if you have software to make gif files. Generally I'm a perfectionist and prefer things to look nice and neat. I'm also sure that there may be some people that will eventually delete the FX ball. At least that will still help determine which base is which.

Wow this maps really quite cool, the aesthetics you included are pretty cool, you used the FX really well to! Its just a shame that they are a little bit blocky if you see what I mean. As for gameplay, I can't get a big enough group together to play on it, but it seems slightly too open. The space between the AT-ATs and the rebel base seems really 'uncovered'. Also do the hornets just control the game or are the easy to destroy? Overall this maps pretty cool you worked really well within the limits of Sandbox and this is most certainly one of the greatest 'Star Wars themed' map that I've seen in my time here on forgehub.
