In my opinion, sometimes violent videogames make violent kids.
The kids with the weaker mind that are more susceptible and influenced by the world around them may become more violent if they play the MOST VIOLENT of videogames. In my opinion, It's bad parenting/the environment the kid has been in his/her whole life that truly decides the outcome.

if ppl didn't have video games to blame they'd go find somethin else to blame for what their kid does. it's all denial from the reality that they don't know how to control their kid.

Only if the children have insufficient self awareness and mental fortitude are they influenced by videogames. That means, pretty much all of you. Ur ****ed.

Video games are the newest scapegoat. Recently they have even been blamed for being Columbine along with the media, and music.

IMO, games dont make violent ppl violent. If anything they make them calmer as then can vent their rage without actually hurting anyone. Also the only major way a video game will get anyone to be "violent" is if they dont understand the difference between reality, and the game.

I'm not a violent person. Although when I play GTA4 I go into a mindless rampage and run everybody on the sidewalk with an ice cream truck while screaming "I don't have any more ****ing vanilla" while my relatives in the next room ponder over what the hell I'm doing.

I think that it is a combination of factors, not just video games to cause violence, like parents, movies, media, music, and video games included. I'm not saying all of those things are horrible, I'm just saying that under the right conditions anything is possible.

I think if a video game is actually making you more violent, you just need to step back. In certain cases they might make people more violent, overall, I don't think so.

Really it all depends on morals. If children are taught correctly about what is right and wrong the y will react correspondingly to violent things. People who have good morals know that killing is wrong and won't poison their mind with thoughts of killing, they think about a map to build or neat vehicular explosions, but not mind rehearsal of actual murder.

Well also you can think some killers they may of had the best morals growing up, but one point they kinda could just lose it too, anyone can. I see what you mean, but i think it is more of a mature mind, and morals yes , know right from wrong and things.
I would let my kids at a CERTAIN age play Mature games, but I would try to see how they react over time, talk to them and play it to see how they are handling it in ways. I hope I wrote that for understanding.

I think that this is purely up to genetics and personality buildup of a child. I've been playing FPS's since I was 10, and I'm (not to brag, just an example) an A honor student whose temper never flairs beyond a certain unforgivable spectrum. Then there's the kid who has a natural bad temper. The GTA he's playin' would only enforce that.

I don't find genetics a huge thing to do with it, but personality yes,why I say no to genetics, I mean it seems that way, but you know you don't always have genetics that will effect it that badly. I mean I get angry easily, but I still was playing GTA since I was young, and I am okay. Also Personality yes, how you act is a huge deal, and also how you respond to the game. Like if I heard my kid saying "I would totally do this in real life" and I see him running over people on GTA, I would be kinda worried tbh.

I hate this topic. Its just that video games are so easy to blame. I play ALOT of violent video games and I also listen to death metal (Death, Children Of Bodem, Arch Enemy, Machine Head, All That Remains, Between The Buried And Me, etc.) Im 16, on the honor roll in school, have never been in a fight, im medicated for ADHD, and one day I hope to become a quantum physicist.

I think so, not physically, but they think about stuff.
My mom watches two boys about 10 years old. All they talk about is like heads getting cut off and torture. Yes, they play M games...

Any source to prove this? I believe that killers (by killers do you mean serial killers?) have to have the genetic predisposition and a combination of environmental factors when they were younger to obtain the antisocial personality disorder (diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders. 4th edition. text revision. pg 704 familial patterns).

I always thought that its really up to two factors: the game, and the age of the child.

A game is obviously a big factor; Super Mario Bros isn't going to turn your four-year-old into a ruthless cold-blooded killer. However, with games like this one, I do think that its gameplay can stimulate some harsh, and maybe even aggressive thoughts in a young person's brain. The rating system is there to refrain this on console and PC games, but online games don't have this barrier. Parents need to monitor what games children play. Its simple as that.

yeah, but i actually think that playing or doing something bad in a video game lets the mind reason with itself that the act wasnt that bad because no consequence happened. games like assassins creed and GTA4 arent that bad because they have guards and cops onto you once you do something, but my reason for violence from video games starts with noobs. the people who arent good at games get enraged when something bad happens to them, violent people to begin with, and they feel like they can really kill someone or steal something because they can in video games.

i've been playing 16/18 rated games since i was 5 and i've never attacked someone in my life. I very rarely swear and when i do i apolagise. i have only ever drawn blood from another person once (by accident when i was playing hockey) and felt guilty about it. Anyone who tells me that games make people violent have clearly never met me, or my 9 year old cousin whom i regularly play Gears of war 2 with, and as far as i'm concerned is one of the friendliest 9 year olds you're ever likeley to meet.
