I hate these stupid things that are apparently "amazing"; I enjoyed Resistance 2 no more with 60 players than I did with 6 players. Why? No vehicles and no awesome physics. That's why I like Halo 3, but if they had vehicles or anything fun in R2 then it'd make it so laggy (laggier than it is currently). I take it this game is like Warhawk; no campaign, only online? If microsoft made a big-team game like this then they'd be a lot more subtle about it. Instead of 60 players or over 9000! players or w/e we'd have something like 40 players, but with very large maps that actually aren't all symmetrical and some may even have an existing line of sight between the two farthest ends of the map. Also they'd have vehicles still and let people with open NAT in. All we need to do to accomplish this is make the servers dedicated (assuming that they aren't already) and make the matchmaking more specific.
Butthurt fanboy much? You're implying that Resistance has less lag than Halo, which is not the case. The 360 can handle 24 players max.
hey stop bashing ps3 guys. its a pretty good system, and it has better graphics. i for one will definiitely buy this and play it on release. it looks ****ing sick. frontlines: fuel of war had 64 players max, and that was awesome. imagine 256 people all fighting on 1 battlefield.
I kinda wish someone would make 256 player top-down shooter. Doesn't even have to have that 'squads' element, I'd be perfectly happy with an epic FFA. Oh man, what if there was a CTF game, or Territories. Actually, I'd be happy with 256 player anything. Just playing with 256 players would make me shat brix.
I don't see why everyone is so excited. All I can get from this is a couple of screenshots that look like a different game entirely and a CGI trailer. The main 'gameplay' they talk about is how many people there are on the field. I can gather absolutely nothing on how it will play out. I don't know if it will go with Halo style shooting of CoD shooting. It really sounds impressive but when you get down to it, the only thing I can hear about it is that it has a lot of people.
What? Are you confused to the fact that I was refering to the fact that Halo has a static aim where each bullet will fall into the circle and that no movement whatsoever will affect the shooting and that Call of Duty has a seperate mechanic completly where you have to use Iron sites to actually make a pinpoint accurate shot or else it's just dumb luck? Or are you confused as to why I called it the Halo style or CoD style which are the two most popular shooting games that use both of those mechanics? If you want, I could add some more games to each one. Would you rather I did that?
This looks very similar to Frontlines: Fuel of War. In FFoW, however, the player cap was 50 people, which, in my opinion, was just right. Not too many people, but enough to ensure that you could utilize all of your land/air vehicles, as well as have some sniper teams, anti-vehicle infantry, etc. on the ground. I always wondered what it would be like with more people, though.... Hmm, I'm anticipating this game to see how the large scale multiplayer works out
Sorry about my earlier post, it's just PS3 fanboys always lay into me when I mention the 360, and one of their arguments is the 60-player online of Resistance 2; an idea that I think is an okay idea, but not revolutionary just because the 360 doesn't have that many people online.
Don't worry, I'm completely fairly balanced, fanboy for BOTH. I completed Kill zone 2 this morning, and it was pretty poor actually. All it has is visuals really, which are pretty good. Resistance 2, gameplay-wise is fantastic due to campaign, Co-op, and clan options. The 60 player option doesn't really add too much difference, obviously, it makes big maps more interesting, but it doesn't change too much. MAG, Looks to be new and intuitive, from what I've seen, and looks different. This is probably because I think of it as a large scale ET: Quake Wars. The vehicles look pretty good, I'll definitely play it a bit, but yes, all it REALLY has to offer so far is 256 players online, but in fairness, that is really something. I have friends on both sides that are complete fanboys, but I've seen the best of all exclusives, and I think of them equally really.
I hope the map you play in is a massive city/countryside, so many battles will take place, and not just one big one. That would be awesome. Also, I can imagine some sneaky guy going around the whole map and knifing half of the other team. That would be epic to see.
You'd be surprised at how many people actually play online on the PS3. The community for CoD4, Killzone 2, and Resistance 2 (which supports 64 player online matches.) is pretty big. With dedicated servers, the games would be virtually lag free. EDIT: Oh, yeah. There will be a game for the 360 that is sort of similar to MAG and it will be called APB (All Points Bulletin). Apparently it's from the creators of Crackdown. Here's some info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/APB_(video_game) Another MMO coming out for the 360 is called Huxley. It's an MMOFPS and apparently it will support 100v100 battles.
agreed. im a fanboy of oth myself, and i divide my time. but then i got my ps3 earlier so i finished most of the games, and my little brother lost cod 4 yes, heres hoping. i would love to have lie philadelphia, london, washington d.c., as batttlefields. imagine if you will, the base-base combat in halo 3. now imagine combat between 2 buildings, with snipers and demolition guys dominating. and then the better team picks up on thier fire, llowin strike team to infiltrate the enemy building, and shotty/knife everyone. epic. win. now add to that an entire city, with houses, cars, trucks, power stations, everything. urban warfare as it would be in a full-scale war
wow after seeing this trailer i was actually tempted to buy an PS3 just for this game (and maybe killzone)
Update: I'll edit this into the thread description, but just for now, unofficial information from another forum has put forward some key points. Linkage = NeoGAF - View Single Post - MAG screenshots
256 players 256 players! 256 players!! God, thats all the damn thing bragged about. What ever happened to quality > quantity?
