**Take note, this is for people with a basic knowledge of Halo 3** Have you ever wondered how people can keep a consistent winning streak in the game Halo 3? Or how they achieved the maximum skill of 50 within a few weeks? The answer to these questions lie in simple rules and directions players have learned to follow in each and every game. There are three basic elements that will significantly increase your overall performance and skill. These are timing, team and personal setup and instinct. We'll begin with the element of timing. In virtually every game you are thrown into there will be a number of power-ups and weapons available to every player which are usually set on a respawn timer. Typically in matchmaking there are two power-ups, the overshield and the active camouflage. Once one of these power-ups are obtained they immediately are set to respawn three minutes from the moment you picked it up. In example, if you or a teammate pick up the overshield at 11:48 it will be set to respawn at 8:48 and if you pick up the active camouflage at 10:25 it will respawn at 7:25. So keep in mind the three minute duration so you and your team can keep control of those power-ups throughout the game. Another tip with timing is when the overshield power-up is obtained you have a small duration of invulnerability which lasts 4 seconds. For instance, if you pick up the overshield while taking fire you will not lose any of your overshield or health for the duration of those 4 seconds. A way to take this limited invulnerability to your advantage is to save the overshield for a moment of desperation. In example, camping near the overshield in the Sniper Tower allows you to grab it when someone decides to enter and open fire, giving you the opportunity to kill him with ease. Take note that the invulnerability does not resist an assassination, so watch your back. Weapon respawns are different for most weapons, although your priorities for weapons should always be rockets, sniper rifle, sword and shotgun. In a typical slayer and team slayer matchmaking game the rockets are on a 3 minute respawn and sniper, shotgun, sword are all on a 2-3 minute respawn depending on the map played. If you and your teammates are able to time out these weapons and power-ups with consistency I guarantee the overall performance and winning ratio of you and your team will improve. The second element to improving performance and skill is knowing how and where to setup as a team and individually. On every map in Halo 3 there are lines of crossfire which allow you and a teammate to sit in different locations of the map while having the ability to attack the same target producing something commonly known as "team shooting." Team shooting is the most powerful outcome from having a good team setup. Team setups are also used to keep a close eye on where enemies are and where they travel to. For instance, if you have a teammate posted in the sword hallway on Construct he can defend the pillars that allow players to access the high ground without using the lifts. To utilize this and defend the sword hallway you need to post yourself in a location where you can call out someone moving in on your teammate. This way your teammate can do something commonly known as pre-nading (this means to throw a grenade at the assumed location before or when an enemy is about to enter) to weaken and kill the attacking opponent. The final element that will improve your skill is instinct. This is something that can easily be strengthened in any gametype on any map. Instinct simply comes down to expecting what will happen next. The way I tend to play the game, especially in free for all is I always throw a grenade in a doorway before I enter. This way if there is indeed someone waiting there I can easily pick up the quick kill. Instinct also requires constant awareness of where players and enemies are located. It may seem hard at first, but taking brief moments to scope out where your teammates are will allow you to work with them in situations of desperation. Also using the respawn gives you a great opportunity to monitor your teammates back with the moving camera option. This all enables you to be more aware of what is happening around you and being able to expect what happens next. Instinct also comes down to situations where you and an opponent are the only ones in battle. Using your instinct you can win most of these 1v1 battles by jumping in the air near the end of a rifle fight to throw off your opponents aim. Tiny things like this give you a significant advantage in 1v1 battles. I only recommend jumping in desperate times since jumping commits yourself to easy fire. Instinct also requires something called strafing, this is when you move left to right in different patterns to throw off your enemies aim in a battle. Using typical left to right is usually too predictable but over time experimenting with different patterns will enable you to win more battles between your opponents. In conclusion, I will summarize the elements discussed to improving your game in Halo 3. Keeping timers on weapons and power-ups, placing yourself in locations that can enable team shooting and call outs to teammates and using basic instinct to keep awareness of teammates and strafing to win 1v1 situations. These steps may seem difficult to execute, but if they are held in priority and kept in mind with every game you enter I guarantee that your overall performance and skill will improve individually and as a team. You will begin to see winning streaks, increase in ranking and an overall greater enjoyment playing Halo 3 on a daily basis. If this thread gains enough interest, I will submit other guides every other week with more topics, strategies, and tips. Sincerely, -Spades of SiN
This could be better organised, and I'm pretty sure that others have posted guides before, but this guide is rather decent and gives a general look over how to improve. But I think there is more to playing the game than just knowing when the sword will spawn, or teamwork. You might want to add in a section about technique (e.g. how to use the BR better, what control setup to use etc.)
The very first thing posted was a disclaimer noting it was for players with a very basic knowledge of Halo 3. I never went into great detail for a reason. According to organization standards I would say it's spot on, considering it's formally written.
i already knew this stuff, but i've been playing Halo since it came out. it is a good guide to new players though. most of them don't know that the wepons and power ups have a set spwan time.
practice is all it takes not some fourm on how to be better no offense I think these are a waste of time because it takes more than just knowing when wepons spawn and besides it is so hard to get fiftys now because ever one standbys my friend recently got his 50 on 2 of his accounts he did this by step 1: start a new account easier to level up 2. find good f'n teammates cause if u dont u wont make it 3. play a four person gametype perferabley team slayer will explain in next step 4. get up to 40 or so then standby for the last ten the only reason i say this is because my friend got to his 49 fair'n square but everybody then standbys themselves so unless u get lucky and dont face cheaters or you have what it takes halo to get a 50 real dosnt matter it is extreamly hard to get and help fourm will not help u
Hehe, I just wing it, and I believe I'm an above average player. I don't have any real plan either. I'm a good team player, it's just that I'm obsessed with getting my K/D ratio up. I think that's the problem sometimes.
Here is my Halo basis. 1) Prediction. It's easier to kill someone if you know what they are going to do first. For example, The Pit. People will go Rockets, Camo, Sniper, and the sniper should go for Overshields. Knowing the typical paths make it easier to come up with a strategy on how to countact to it. 2) Memory. Memorize weapon spawns, weapon placement, spawn placement, teammates habits, and enemy habits. You may have someone on your team who rushes with BR or someone who camps with sword. You could have an enemy who uses sniper all game or someone who uses a vehicle. Knowing the people you're playing with and knowing your enemies gives you an advantage. Although it's not hard to figure out too much about your team or enemies, it's best to go in to matchmaking with teammates you know already. 3) Accuracy. Being accurate with your shots, grenades, and equipments. If you have a regen, drop in with your team. If you have a drainer, don't throw it with someone on your team in front of you. There are many essentials to Halo that you need to play good. The ones you've named, the ones I've named and many more. Good guide, man.
This is a good guide for a beginner, but you should have divided the sections more clearly. Also, the three main points you have aren't the top three important things. What you really need in order to succeed at Halo are: Good communication skills. Good aim. Being able to handle pressure. Having the right attitude/mindset. Teamwork/team coordination. Awareness. Quick reaction time. Choosing battles wisely. Knowing where to go and when to rush/fall back. Knowing when to chase. Weapon/power up timing. Patience. Knowledge of tactical jumps/areas. Knowlege of "map specifics" and LOS. Grenade angles Etc, etc, etc. The list goes on and on. There's also a TON of sub-points under each category I mentioned (and I'm sure I'm forgetting some major points). For beginners, don't worry about all the specifics at first. Just practice. Practice, Practice, Practice. Trying to learn how to do all of the specifics can be frustrating and overwhelming. Just keep practicing and you will learn things naturally.
i have the only basic things listed here that you need to know 1.) Get the maps down, if you don't know your way around them then you'll fail. if you need to look around them in forge. 2.) listen to people that are higher rank then you and are acctualy getting a few kills, if you don't listen to your team then you will yet again fail. 3.)Practice,nothing to it.
OOOH... I recognize this format. An opinion essay? Noice. Anyways, the guide was okay, but I don't think it covered the more important things. Like knowing the map. Instead of making an opinion essay, you should have made categories and explained why these were impotant. Timing is something I never think about however, so I'll keep this in mind. Things like aiming a bit ahead of your opponent are important as well.
Sooo....... 1) Control ***** All Power Weapons 2) Camp 3) Don't Suck? That's the short version of your guide. congratulations, people hate you in MM.
