Are you serious? Dude you are the only person I know who thinks that GTA IV was a disappointment. It was rated a perfect 10 in both IGN and gamespot. I have the game and I am enjoying every bit of it. As for my choice for most disappointing game of 2008, I would have to go with Far Cry 2. At first, I was choosing from FC2 or CoD: WAW. I eventually picked FC2 because it was so convincing meaning the trailers and videos were all very good looking. When I played it, I found out that the game play was quite boring for me. It's kinda dull in a way. Not exciting either. The map editor was fine but I still found Halo 3's map editor to be the victor here.
Nobody I know plays that game anymore, and that's what was awesome with GTA. Alot of other people didn't like it too why don't you look back a few pages.
i think probably star wars force unleashed. it was fuin as hell the first time, but then got real boring and repetitive. other dissapointments: asasins creed. great game, love it still, but, like the force unleashed, the campaign makes you do the same stuff over and over. the only real diference is the fact that assassins creed lets you do it in any order you want. imperium romanum: little known game. a city-builder set in ancient rome. great reviews, promising trailers, but not my kind of game. the military aspect was so botched it ruined the game. it is not the city-building aspect that i hated either, because i loved black and white 2.
my most disappointing game was Call of Duty: World at War. That game was fun at first, but it soond became boring a long period of time. I love the new zombie map they made, but it is still boring to me.
I have 2 major let-downs of 2008 One is GTA IV. I admit the Story Mode was fantastic, but that's just the story. The gameplay was very repetitive. It was like go to a guy, he tells you that you need to kill someone, you go kill him, go back and get your reward. Very boring in my opinion. The multiplayer was also very bad. I had some fun in Free Mode.. but for like a week, then it got extremely boring. I think the realisim aspect of GTA IV is what killed it for me. I hope the next GTA is more of the old with the over-the-top fun with hilarious cheat codes included. The second game that was disappointing was Far Cry 2. The idea of it all sounds good on paper: Open world gameplay, do whatever you want sort of thing, but it just wasn't executed well. Most of time you're driving to your location, and in the middle of your journey, you come across enemies that somehow know you're there all the time, and no matter what you do you can't run away from them. The worst part about that was that the enemies respawned after you had left, then revisited that area! Horrible. The only good thing was the map editor. So many options with so much to do. It was like a Forger's dream. But the thing that killed it was the multiplayer. I mean, I don't want to make maps for a game with a craptastic multiplayer aspect. There's no incentive to do so. That was the unfortunate death of Far Cry 2 for me. EDIT: Imagine Halo 3 with Far Cry 2's map editor. That would be my dream.
i am going to have to say call of duty world at war because the beta was absolutly great and then when i bought the game those were the only good multiplayer maps and all the rest sucked. and when i beat the campaign i was extremely dissapointed becuase i was hoping for a big red one feel, long and with a great story
I will have to agree with you completely on this one. It is exciting at first, but as soon as you finish the last mission it turns boring. Repeating the missions may be okay due to the reason that I wanted some more achievements, but it gets less intense than it used to be back when you played it for the first time. The multiplayer was kinda boring for me as well. Call of Duty 4 multiplayer was so much fun and a lot more exciting than WaW. I guess we have to wait for 7 months until we can experience the best Call Of Duty ever (pause) (pause) (pause) ever.
i HATE people who bash cod 5. i love the game personally. it is the best cod game IMHO. the campaign was really fun, and had the death cards as an extra incentive. multiplayer is really fun as well, and immersive as all hell. who doesnt like running around with a MP40 with an aperture sight?!
First of all, I am NOT bashing the game. I am simply stating my opinion like any other person who replied on this thread. So quit whining, please? Just an extra message, I get IMO...but what does the 'H' stand for in IMHO?
In My Honest Opinion I wasnt talking specifically about you. did you not notice the like 3 or 4 other people bashind cod 5? i think its the best overall game i have. i say overall because bioshock is better campaignwise, but has no multiplayer, and this is my 2nd best campaign game and my best multiplayer game. i have yet to see any game that is better then cod5.
Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2 perhaps? To not take the risk of having this counted as spam, one other disappointing game last 2008 was Brother's In Arms: Hell's Highway. The previews from magazines had quite a high "Excited-O-Meter" (or something like that). When I played the demo, I found it to be extremely worse than everyone expected. Just one tip...DO NOT buy this game, it will waste your time and money.
i have not yet seen cod 4 2. all we have recieved is some crappy trailer that shows...green. and hear guns. thats it. shitty trailer. period.
Soo many disappointments from last year's lineup. It was sad really. My most MAJOR disappointment was Super Smash Bros Brawl for the Wii. They took the furious, intense and fast game play of Melee and killed it in one fell swoop. First mistake was fixing the glitches in SSBM. That is what makes that game so fast paced. Second was slowing every character down to half the speed. Really, in general, every thing they did totally ruined the game. They added such great characters and gave it such great potential, but they just destroied it completely. It was a total failure. Also, as a side note, I'm a huge Smash fan. Could even be called a Fanboy and I wouldn't mind. The next on the list which is very close to first place would be Far Cry 2. It felt like a knockoff of COD4 with bad controls, horrid aiming and a discusting multiplayer system. They had a great concept and everything, but they just screwed up on gameplay mostly. Map editor was genus, and the campain was long and interesting. It is the only thing saving itself from being horrible. Next up is Gears of War 2. The reason it was a huge letdown to me was because it didn't really bring anything new to the table. Same cover system, few new weapons, few new enemies, and some new scenerios. Also, the way Dom kept on whining thoughout the whole game got on my nerves. Horde mode was fun, but close to impossible on the hardest difficulty. Multiplayer was a let down too. My last letdown is Dead Space. I'm not sure what it was about it, but it couldn't keep my attention. It got boring, slow, and although it scared me a few times, it still didn't have enough suspense. Oh, I forgot to mention COD:WaW. It blew. Peroid.
