So I was wondering... Seeing as you can have only 100 custom maps, why can't you store any on a portable accesory, such as a USB-stick.

I saved all my Super Smash Bros. Brawl maps on my SD-card, which is very handy when I go visit someone and would like bringing my maps along with me.

Bringing along the Xbox' hard drive doesn't work - it does show maps you have on the storage device, but not the map packs that haven't been installed on the other Xbox. So if I bring my HDD with me to a friend of mine that doesn't have XBL, we can only play the maps included with Halo 3.
So, yeah, that's sort of a second problem, but not one I really care about that much.

To get back to the point: Why can't you store stuff on USB sticks, like the Wii allows you to use the SD-card as a storage extension (especially with the recent update)?

(SSBB maps are binary files, the Wii can read them and recreate them - just like the replays. Same goes for Halo 3 replays, so why can't it just make a binary map file on a USB stick that Halo 3 can read? I mean, I'm rather sure the custom maps -are- binary files already, they don't take long to load unlike when you load a different map)

i don't think this will work i mean our hardrives could handle thousands of halo 3 maps but bungie made a limit on how many we are allowed to have im not sure why though

Maybe we can buy more slots for it with Microsoft points like with Halo 3 file share.

Has anyone tried directly plugging a USB chip into the Xbox outlets?

    Fail.

Maps are merely data that tells the game where to spawn objects on a map. I am not sure whether or not you can save that as data a USB can store.

USB flash drives and hard drives sadly don't work.
There's always the handy dandy memory card.

    Hahaha xD
    "ZOMG 256* MB"

    *or whut does it say?

Anyway, I'll look into it. Don't think I'll buy a memory card, but if it turns out you can store additional maps on them, that you can load directly from Halo 3 (so not having to go exchanging data between memory card and HDD), I might get myself one o' those.

If you haven't noticed already, Microsoft is extremely smart. They probably purposely made it so a memory stick cannot be external memory, then people would have no choice other than to spend money on their products. Even though we already spend hundreds even thousands of dollars......

    ..... each.

    Let's see, Elite console €220 (300 - 10% off, -€50)
    Halo €40
Mass Effect €6 (yes, really, they mislabeled it ;))
    Army of Two €30
    Gears of War €30
    Fable II €40

That's a total of €376. That's alright, in my opinion.

I'm off to buy Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead, and Halo Wars: LCE today, though, so it'll be up to 420 or something.
God, I hope they still have HW: LCE.
    (There's a 3 for 2 action. I'm happy.)

I beleive in theory its possible. I was reading a tutorial on how to get gamesaves on a usb :)o lmao) and it said you need to format your usb, try searching for a tutorial that teaches you to format your usb to use it as an xbox 360 memory card, try googling "usb thumbdrive as memory card for xbox 360"

In theory if you take your hardrive out when you save with your usb in (you will have to start your console with your usb in) then you should be able to save it there and then you plug in at a friends house and it loads everything from your usb (you will have to select it as a source when you load halo (it should pop-up asking were you save etc)

Im not sure, just experiment, tell us what you come up with..

Good idea. It would be nice of bungie to at least tell us why there is a 100 limit.
