Well, I see movies quite frequently and I am sure many of you do as well. With all these movies, it is hard to separate good from bad before seeing them, and it is often a difficult decision when it comes to your next movie rent. So I created this thread so we can all share what the last movie we saw was, so that we all could become aware of other movies to view.

This is a serious thread, hence why it is in General Discussion, and you should follow the very simple Format.
    Movie Title:
What it's about: (Avoid spoliers, or at least place them in spoiler tags)
What you thought: (Like, didn't like, go as deep as you want)

Commenting on other movies are allowed, but discussions should be kept to a minimum, otherwise resort to PM's. Now I'll go first. Oh, you could have rented the movie, saw it in theaters, or any method (legal of course.... >_>)

    ----------

    Monsters vs. Aliens
Susan, bride to be, gets hit by a meteorite that results in her growing several stories tall. She is classified as a monster, and is sent to Area Fifty...(ack!). An alien comes, and threatens to destroy the world, so monsters have to save the day.
I have mixed feelings about this movie. I was laughing at several parts, yet I would question why I was laughing in the first place several times. There were also many parts where the jokes could have been much better.
For ex: The President pulls out a gun and shoots a couple rounds into the alien robot exclaiming "Eat lead! -- I guess you did. I'm a brave President!" but it had no set up for the joke. The president should have pulled over a news reporter, and told him to film this. That would have made the joke much better.
So in the end, I loved it, but was somewhat disappointed because many parts had the potential to be better. So, if you like animation (it is quite good) and perhaps have younger siblings or children to see a movie with, you both will get satisfaction from this movie. In the end, at least rent it when it comes out on DVD.

    Slumdog Millionaire
Story about a guy in India who's life experiences help him win 20 million rubles (?)
It was really, really good, but it felt overhyped. I felt like WALL-E was a better movie overall, it just felt so developed compared to this one. Slumdog had some interesting uses of cinematography, but some parts got annoying at some points, and there wasn't really that 'magical' feeling you get in classic movies, where everything is abolsutely perfect and nothing is redundant. Some parts of Slumdog to me felt like they didn't affect the story and just distracted. Second favorite movie of the year, second to WALL-E.

    Movie Title: The Watchmen
What it's about: I didn't really pay attention to the movie that much. The people I was with distracted me to much, but what I did get from it...
Somebody was killing off retired costumed heros and the time period was during World War II.
What you thought: From the part I did watch, it was fairly confusing and hard to follow unless you listen to every word. I thought the fight scenes were phenomenal, the blood, the bones, and the combos were awesome and had me screaming for more. The effects throughout the movie were great, even though I sat to myself saying it was just computer generated my mind kept coming back convincing me it was real. The sex scenes were creepy on the most part, blue man group and girl, then wannabe batman and girl. I'm definitely going to have to rent it when it comes out on DVD and watch it by myself so I can get the real concept, but overall I loved it and I would recommend it to anyone asking.

Saw this on TV last night...
Sorry it's not a great synopsis and opinion but I cannot remember everything in detail.
Oh here's a great site for film referencing and info: www.imdb.com

    Movie Title:

    White Chicks

    What it's about:

Two disgraced FBI agents go way undercover in an effort to protect hotel heiresses the Wilson Sisters from a kidnapping plot.

    What you thought:

Of course it was funny! Yeah, some real good parts in it, made me laugh quite few times.

    REC.

    Some Spanish zombie film.
    Had English subtitles though.
Quite realistic, the fact that the camera quality isn't great makes it more realistic.
    The effects were pretty good.
It wouldn't have worked as a high budget film.
    I do recommend it.

Question: Can we review a film already reviewed? Because my last movie was Monsters vs Aliens as well... I'll review it anyway. I guess getting multiple opinions is always good.

    Movie: Monsters vs Aliens
What's it About: Susan, bride to be, gets hit by a meteorite that results in her growing several stories tall. She is classified as a monster, and is sent to Area Fifty...(ack!), where she meets a few other monsters, B.O.B., Dr. Cockroach, Insectosaurus and The Missing Link. An alien comes, and threatens to destroy the world, so monsters have to save the day.

What I thought: I thought it was phenomenal. The jokes had me cracking up constantly. Specifically, I thought the voice acting by Seth Rogen (B.O.B), Stephen Colbert (The president) and Hugh Laurie (Dr. Cockroach) were great. Specifically Rogen, he just makes any movie funnier.
For example, the scene where he remarks, "I think that jello gave me a fake phone number" was pretty funny, but there were too many parts I laughed at to recall a fave

The only thing I sort of didn't like, was how they sort of rushed the beginning. Like, I know they had to get to the plot, but I like it when the movie flows into itself. Rather than immediately thrusting the plot at the audience. But meh, I digress...

Overall- *** stars out of four.

The last movie I saw, was actually Saw. Lol

It was pointlessly gory and although the back story had a lot more depth than I had expected, it was just not my type of movie. I don't like the idea of making people suffer for squandering their life. I'd put the gun to my head stright away.

There, now spam post is not spam. No infraction for me.

    Spam post is spam.

If you read the OP, you are supposed to actually follow the format and give a review, not lol and post the name of the movie.

    /facepalm

its set during the cold war, not WWII

    Movie Title: Duplicity
What it's about: 2 agents who work as counter-intellegence for rival major companies, and try to scam both companies.
What you thought: it was a little confusing at times, but overall i really liked it. the end was a real twist, and was completely unexpdected.

Movie Title: The Haunting in Connecticut
What It's About: A family who moves into a haunted house; a former funeral home. Their son has cancer, so they need to move closer to a hospital.
What I thought: I was severely disappointed. The previews made it look like it would be a sincerely frightening experience (A la The Exorcism of Emily Rose) but aside from a few select instances that startled me slightly, it was generally bland and uninteresting, with an entirely contrived, boring ending. If you were planning to watch it, save your money- it's not worth it.

    Movie Title: Taken

    What it's about:
Bryan Mills the main character in the story, a retired secret service agent has decided to move closer to his daughter to strengthen his relationship with her after many years of not being able to be beside her while she is growing up. His daughter lives with her mom and her wealthy stepfather. Bryan's daughter Kim convinces her father to allow her to travel to Paris with her friend Amanda. Upon arriving in Paris they decide to share a cab with a stranger and Kim's friend Amanda tells this stranger that they are alone in Paris. After multiple times of Bryan trying to contact his daughter in Paris she eventually picks up the phone. Upon answering she tells him that criminals have just broken into the house. Bryan immediately tells her daughter what to do yet she is still kidnapped. Bryan promises in the phone to kill the kidnapper of his daughter and he immediately travels to Paris to find Kim and chase the criminals.

    What I thought:
I personally have only seen about four or five movies since seeing The Dark Knight. I thought Taken is probably one of the better movies I've watched since The Dark Knight. Taken is essentially starts off with a slower pace but from the point that Kim gets taken in the movie on to the end it is definitely fast paced and enjoyable. Yes at some points it can be predictable but otherwise I thought it was a really enjoyable movie to watch. It kind of resembles the Transporter series in a way.

I haven't watched a movie in a long time, so the last movie I've seen on T.V. was the Spongebo Squarepants movie.
It was about and little plankton named plankton steals King Neptunes crown and takes it to Shell City. He then blames a crab named Mr. Krabs and is frozen for five days by King Neptune. Then a spone named Spongebob with his best freing Patrick (a starfish) goes on a big adventure to shell city to receive the crown.
I thought it was funny, maybe the best movie I've seen on Nicklelodean. Maybe even the best animated movie I've seen.

    Movie Title: The Machinist

What it's about: The cover says Fight Club meets Memento; this couldn't be more true. Basically: A factory worker suffering from paranoia, bolemia, and insomnia tries to piece together his memories and his hallucinations.

What you thought: I thought it was a fantastic film. Christian Bale's performance and committment to his role is outstanding. Though a little confusing, it was extremely entertaining.

i guess i'll review 2, since most wont care for the last movie i saw,

    Movie: Twilight

Its about a forbidden love between a girl who moves to a town she hates to live with her dad and a vampire who hates himself for being what he is, and is always tying to make up for being a monster, even though he really isnt.

I thought it was a decent film. not great compared to the book (i read the series twice), but its still decent. some of the acting is a bit sub-par, but the actors are all real good lookin. Most guys just hate it for not much reason at all since theyve never read the book, but id recommend it. although it might be a bit boring if you havnt read the book, thats what my mom said. oh and the dvd has some funny extras and the commentary version is rather comedic.

    Movie: Pineapple Express

Its about a stoner who gets a special kind of weed called pineapple express from his drug dealer, but then gets invovled in a real sticky situation when he witnesses a murder and the murderer trackes him down through the pineapple express roach he dropped. A very funny comedy.

Id recommend this one to anyone who just wants to laugh at a silly comedy. its agreat movie for that. if youre looking for more, rent a different moviee.

To answer a previous question, yes you can state a movie that's already been said. People have varying opinions on such things, so just because 1 person didn't like it, that doesn't mean another one wouldn't. Anyway, here is a twofer.

The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency
An African woman living in Botswana decides to create a detective's agency after her fathers passing. At first she is treated as an outcast with a horrible idea, but she goes on to solve several mysteries, hence giving back to the country she loves.

Okay, so before someone gets on my ass about this one, no it isn't technically a movie. It is the first episode to a new BBC television series, that is on HBO. However, it was nearly 2 hours long, so I am calling it a movie, besides it could stand alone as one. Anyway, onto what I thought. I very much enjoyed this, the characters were loveable, and there were some very touching moments. You actually feel like you are getting a glimpse into another society in a story that shows a different side of all the violence and crime. On top of that, I loved the soundtrack, especially for a television show (for all practical purposes) and I look forward to seeing the future episodes here in the US. Go see it!

    --------------

    Jackie Brown
In Tarantino fashion, the money carrier (Jackie Brown) for a arms salesmen gets caught, and the only way for her to get out of this as well as her employer, is to trick the police. However, that's not the only people Jackie Brown plans to trick, which of course, ends in wtf chaos.

Okay, so surprisingly I have never really heard much about this Tarantino classic, though I guess it has many mixed reviews. For the most part, I enjoyed it. It had that same feeling that any Tarantino flick does, and the same laughable yet twisted humor portrayed by the characters. If anything it felt a little long, and drawn out in certain parts. However, that could be due to the fact that I still had stuff to do, and it was getting late. But I recommend it as a watch, especially if your a Tarantino fan, it's a movie you shouldn't miss.
