With Sandbox out and every now has it there has been attempted remakes at almost every map. Some amazing and some bad. What I have noticed is that Maps like Blood Gulch and Sidewinder have been attempted to be recreated. But, everyone says it will never work. This is why I am suggesting that someone just build in the dunes then. If you can find a place that is somewhat like the terrain of an outdoor map you want to create, the possibilities are endless. forge away
I seem to be following you around, lol. I literally just replied to your post in the Blood Gulch remake thread with my own thoughts, and I'm a little skeptical as to how effective the dunes are as a build space for outside maps. Here were my thoughts on that specific map, but the principles apply more generally as well: The fact that you wouldn't be able to contain the map at all would really detract from any remake if you ask me, since you can't rely on the now impotent guardians on a canvas where you can build in the dunes. Having no real edge to a map just means that what you actually build will be detracted from in remake terms, and I'd say it's a proposition that should be considered very carefully when building any map out in the dunes.
I agree with Pegasi but limiting the death barrier is possible. The "guns" shoot the opposite side of the map. Ideally, you can narrow the playing field by setting up warning signs and blocking off the select few. I don't think it would do fairly well though, even with the dunes. If you're so flustered with the overflow of "mediocre outside maps," why not create your own?
I am and to about a barrier around, it wouldn't be that hard. If you budget glitch it and over ride OL then you could get a full atleast 3 box high barrier. Also with these maps there isn't much inside structures anyway so you are not detracting from what could be in the map itself
I agree. I would like to see a good forger go at it so other people could see the full map use area of sandbox. Just get someone who knows how to geo-merge good.
First of all, how do you over-ride the OL? Second, couldnt you block off certain angles of the towers so the would shoot only where you want them to? It would take a lot of trial and error, but it could work. That way, you could have a barier where you want one to be. If any of that makes sense . . . .
I assume it has to do with dumping a buttload of tripmines on the map - that's what usually is mentioned when overriding a map is termed. Still though, be careful not to use too many objects, otherwise your map will crash and burn from all the lag.
That wold be a good idea too and also read in forging 101 there is away to keep forging even after the OL Edit: Link http://www.forgehub.com/forum/forging-101/33544-creating-map-without-worrying-about-item-limit.html
