I just got 1600 MS points and I wanted to know if I should buy the legendary map pack so I posted the question on the Halo 3 forums. This sparked a big debate over whether the legendary map pack would be made free or not. Some people said that, as stated in the Bungie updates, the legendary map pack would never be made free. Others said that Bungie is only saying this so that people would not stop paying them, and when the Mythic pack would be released that they would make the legendary pack free. So I wanted to know the opinion of you people; should I buy the legendary map pack right now or wait and see if it becomes free? Also, does anyone have a clue about when the mythic pack will be released in the marketplace?
you've already waited this long, the smart thing to do would probably be just to wait another month because it probably wont hurt seeing that you waited this long
I think you should just buy it... You already have the points right? And you have to have those maps for a lot of matchmaking.
Bunge did say that the Mythic map packs will be released "Maybe next week if all goes to plan." in Friday's Update. If so, they probably would've put that into Friday's update.
No... it's never gonna be free. Bungie isn't running some big conspiracy... they don't control marketplace prices. 800 points or whatever really isn't that much - that's equivalent to maybe 10 bucks.
They have no set expiry date, but if you plan to use them load them on your xbox so you don't lose the card. As for whether you should buy the legendary map pack... you may as well get it now. That way it won't be 6 new maps you have to learn, only 3.
No, they said they would INFORM us of when the map pack would be released, not that it would BE released. But most people have decided its going to be around April 7th. No idea how they got that date, but it IS a date, which is more than Bungie has given us.
yea, i say buy both. Mythic would be 1000 pts at most, because of Sandbox. If Legendary's 800, then save the other 800 for mythic. I just hope Microsoft doesn't **** us by saying Mythic's 1200, requiring those that have less (Bought new 1600 pts - 800 for Legendary = 800) to buy ANOTHER pts card to get Mythic. That would be really underhanded.
Yeah, but the thing is, to get into any sort of matchmaking nowadays, you need the Legendaries. Or well, in 90% of the playlists at least.

According to this it says that they are planning to release it next week, not sure if this will be true or what not but I guess its worth ending till the end of next week or something. Anyway on my opinion of the maps, if they aren't going to be free I would say it is well worth buying them. Avalanche has to be my favourite map for matchmaking and there are some truly awesome gametypes you can play if you get them. :happy:
Once again, they aren't saying they're going to release the maps next week. They're saying they will make an announcement next week, as to when they will release the maps. There will be no map releasing next week.
Give it a month. I personally dislike the Legendary maps from a forger's point of view. There's just nothing you can make, really. But you need the Legendary maps for most playlists now. It's only 600 points though. You could always wait to see if they discount it again.

They said things Bungie Forum members interpreted as "Legendary will never be free", and it's probable, perhaps likely they'll never be free. As for the price, it's 600ms pts. I'm buying mythic when it's released, probably, but I'm not really interested (a lot) in the Legendary map pack. And heck, you never know. Besides, it wouldn't be very clever on terms of making money to announce when the Legendary Map Pack will be free, right? Besides, why wouldn't they if they made the Heroic Map pack free?
