Croly hap. You know the SXSW (South by Southwest) festival? Apparently every year each band sends samples to the organizers to put on their website for free. This year: 6GB of free, 100% legal, music. They have the past years too. For some reason this yer they're only doing http transfer, but I'm giving everyone the torrent links instead. (Don't freak out because you see TORRENT, it's 100% legal.) SXSW 2009 on BitTorrent: 6 GB of Free Music | TorrentFreak Also, don't leech, please pay it forward with a 2:1 up:down ratio. Thank you. I have every single year linked there, I'll be seeding them for a while except for when I'm gaming. Quick link here: http://hewgill.com/sxsw/
The previous years aren't available as direct download, I believe. And if the server's swamped, then torrenting is better. Also, if the server s crap, torrenting is better. Dunno how it is for SXSW, it's probably fast enough, but I think some people would like to help others who are torrenting.
It's really huge variety. That also means you're sorting through 5.5GB of crap to find the gems that you like. NPR has a podcast on current gems: SXSW 2009 Preview : NPR Music Some reviews of the 2008 Torrents: Six-Word Reviews of 763 SXSW Mp3s by Paul Ford - The Morning News Any and all info regarding this I got from Reddit, which has even more discussion in the comments about the bands: The South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival is one of the largest and most popular in the United States. For the fifth year in a row, SXSW has released a DRM-free, RIAA-safe collection of songs totaling 6 GB, which can all be downloaded for free, th SXSW Music: March 18-22, 2009 | SXSW.com
Anyways, Klink, most people here won't like this type of music like we do. At least, I don't think they will.
From the samples it seems to have some variety. And apparently you don't know how torrenting works lol
I torrented for about 3 years, learning the ins and outs of it, before realizing how bad and risky it was/is. And I stand corrected, it seems that this year SXSW has a very varied repertoire of bands.
Risky? Whisper was right about direct being faster in most instances if the host server is close and in good shape, though.
I had so much faith in a website called spiralfrog.com, which is a free legal version of Limewire or iTunes or BitTorrent or whatever. Then they only made it available to Canadians Oh well, at least I don't have to pay anymore. I've already spent £20 DLing legally, but £20 is better than £120 to put in a new HD and use my old one as a 'slave' HD because my old HD got riddled with viruses... Thanks a lot Klinky!
Yes, risky. It is much easier for you to be traced through Bittorrent, despite popular belief. Also, the companies are targeting bittorrent with the majority of their resources.
I prefer limewire. (www.limewire.com) Its always free and legel no matter how much music you want. You can upgrade to pro to completely get no viruses. If you have a good anti virus system then get the free one.
ignorance is bliss XD anyways, I just added 1500 songs to my harddrive...woot. im going back and DLn every year, on 2007 now heh
Limewire iTunes and torrents are all legal It depends on where you are getting your trackers from A private site like waffles will never have bad trackers. And why would there be companies tracking you on songs without DRM that the artists give for free? Never post again lol
I was talking about illegal torrenting, not just SXSW torrents. Anyways, you think that the companies don't have spies on private sites? Think again. There is no doubt that they do. Invites are quite easy to come by.
