It came out today; about 6 hours ago. I loved it. It's amazing. I haven't read the graphic novel so I can't tell you how acurate it may be but as a stand alone film, it's spectacular. I heard about a review that said that you get your money's worth within the very first scene. Which is hard to disgree with. I walked in with fairly low expectations, after reading a couple reviews I expected it to be a 7/10 movie and I was pleasantly surprised. It exceeded far and beyond my expectations. I've shouted this at several people - "GO SEE THE WATCHMEN!"
One of those peeps were me. I'm still telling myself that the movie is going to be ****. Cosma has ruined way too many movie for me, I don't want this to be ruined for me either. But I said, if you thought it was good, I would go watch it. So it looks like I'm going to watch it.
How could you go into a movie directed by Zack Snyder with low expectations? Lol anyway, I'm so excited to see it. I'm going to the midnight showing, and I have read the graphic novel so I know what to expect. Btw, where do you live? It's not out in the U.S. yet.
We live in Australia, we are around 13 hours ahead of U.S. Linu went into the movie with low expectations because our friend (Cosma) always hypes the latest movie that's about to come out, and he pretty much ruins it. In other words his hype made the movie ****. But this is obviously a different matter.
As Jay said; Australia. Because we're awesome like that Yup. In the past Cosma has hyped so many movies a painful amount and after he told me that Tropic Thunder was the greatest film ever, I lost all trust with him and decided he wouldn't ruin any more movies for me. I went in there with pretty much opposite expectations as him.
He probably went in there and thought ( since all of the movies he hypes end up terrible, he knows this but he will never admit it ) I know this movie is going to be bad, since all of the other ones I hyped were terrible, this one is going to be bad too. Hope this is good to redeem myself. That's what I think he was thinking.... Lucky, very very lucky, because if this was bad, lol. He would never hear the end of it from me.
Same. He'd never live it down if it sucked but he was so proud of himself; he finally backed a winner. When were you going to see it? I'm willing to watch it again. Oh and there was some dude, in short khaki shorts, plaid shirt and with two bags(a back-pack and carry bag, who walked out like ten minutes before it ended. There's no doubt in my mind he was in the back with his camera. I nearly burst into laughter when I saw him.
He probably left because he knew it had a terrible ending. From what I've read on the Comic Book Movies - Superhero Movies, Watchmen, Iron Man, Transformers, Batman, X-Men, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Hulk, Avengers, Punisher, G.I. Joe they all say that the ending let the movie down, but the movie was that good, that it didn't matter. I would like to see it saturday night? Tomorrow I've got work and V-Ball, that feels weird saying I've got work.
I, personally, liked the ending. You can decide that when you see it. And if he was indeed filming it, leaving out the final ten minutes would infuriate the internet. Saturday sounds fine. I doubt I'll finish it but I've begun work on a review for it entitled, Believe the Hype.
Read the graphic novel to find out why the fanboys are so pissed about the ending being changed. I'm pretty excited to see it myself, as I've been reading the Watchmen yearly since it came out in the 80's. I know that liberties had to be taken and I know that the ending is different, so I'm going to go in with a positive open mind. I'm pretty excited about The Black Freighter animated supplement that's coming out on DVD later this month too. Again, read the graphic novel and you'll get why it's coming out. And Linu, regardless of what you thought of the overall film if you didn't think that Robert Downey Jr.'s performance in Tropic Thunder was absolutely brilliant, you're crazy.
My mate is buying the graphic novel, once he's done with it, I've informed him that I'm stealing it for a little while. It's impossible to fully satisfy a fanboy, even they should know that. About tropic thunder. I went to see it about a week or two after seeing the Dark Knight, I was still recoving from producing bricks which I nearly shat out. I was told it was the greatest film ever; that it was better than the Dark Knight. Downey Jr. is one of my favourite actors(Mainly for Tropic Thunder and Iron Man) and he did a fantastic job playing an Australian playing a black man, no doubt. Though to tell me that a film is better than the Dark Knight will raise my expectations to a near impossible to reach point.
Yeah, to say a comedy that parodies Hollywood is better than TDK is a stupid claim to make. I actually wouldn't have liked it half as much if it weren't for Downey's performance.
I'm not reading replies to this thread because I'm afraid of spoilers (Even though I read the book to decide if it would be a good movie) and I'm impressed just by the trailers. Gonna go see it on saturday with the boys cause we all got different **** to do tomorrow night. It will be sex.
I have yet to see the movie, have yet to read the book, but 90% of people for my work are obsessed with the Watchmen and I feel like I may get sucked into watching it. Which after reading all these great replies I think I actually won't mind as much as I expected. I just have on question: The Dark Knight or The Watchmen?
If the ending doesn't have a ****ing giant cephalopod (which I know it doesn't), I will be disappointed. So, I'm gonna be disappointed. But who gives a ****. It's ****ing WATCHMEN.
