no way. My first project is going to be ascention "styled" (not remake) map and instead of having the bases being real bases there will be teleporters at the entrances that send you to the crypt where ill have turned it into a 2 base combination.
I've been thinking of making a spiritual successor to Ivory Tower up in the Sky Bubble. What I have been imagining seems like it would be really fun... at least I hope it will be.
I am interested in seeing how people will remake Ascertain. Good luck with your Ivory Tower remake, that was a goodie.
can no one on this site spell? it's ascension... Anyway, my plan is Damnation, 1v1 map, 4 base map then whatever...
This. I'm looking forward to some sweet remakes, but I want to see some fresh new ideas. (And this is kind of spam, but read the bottom of my sig )
Im ready to make some epic mini game maps that will be featured because i have already talked the ideas over with a lot of people who say FEATURE NAO! Also i plan on making a conquest map in the tunnel from mid tier and the crypt. That should be fun.
Dibs on remaking Warthog Jump on sandbox. Oooh, and dibs on making the giant Bender statue that breathes fire and says "Remember me!". And that Gamespot video has a few more tidbits of info, possibly stuff we haven't seen in the other videos. Someone make a timer counting down till March 3rd and put it in the OP.
So, seeing as no-one really guessed where the skull is... Where do you think the skull is? I think they should have kept the Crypt a secret and had the skull in there. Just waiting for the observant person to discover the plug in the tunnel...
I had a thought about the OLN limit, and wondered if anyone knew the answer for sure. We know that default map objects irrevocably eat up that budget, but is it those -specific- items, or is it that the items on map is a quota always factored into the OLN? Example: I make a blank canvas, and bump into the OLN limit making a map. But, being the savvy forger that I am, I made a list of objects contained in the original map, and find that 6 Block, huge were in the original default map, but I only used 5 in mine. Can I place the 6th one, because it meets the 6 placed in the original layout, and thus is one of the "accounted for" items in the budget? Its complicated, but if what i'm asking about is true, we can work with a blank canvas, and just be sure to use the objects that will eat oln budget regardless. bah, total mouthful D: anyone get all of that?
My understanding is that it is indeed those specific items that we have to watch for. Once the map comes out it would be fairly easy to test for your idea, but I'm not optimistic about it.
I'm actually wondering exactly the same thing, it will be a big factor in how we treat the default layout objects. I'm going to ask urk about the specifics of it, but I'd assume (based on how much of an emphasis they put on saving the default objects in the weekly update) that it is those specific default layout items which are factored into the OLN. A counter example of how I think it works: Imagine the default sandbox is just a single wall, placed on the middle layer, no other objects present (spawn points, weapons, anything). The OLN value will be at, say, 1. If you delete that wall, the OLN value will still be at 1. If you place another object, it will go up to 2, even if what you place is another single wall. Once again, this is my best guess, I'll get back once urk hopefully sheds some light on it.
I'd be willing to be that's how it is. The base OLN will always be static and there's nothing we can do that will change it (but I'm never saying never; if someone can figure a way around it, they'll be godly in the halls of Forge forever). Kind of sucks, especially with the spawn points/areas, but I'm sure we'll adapt.
Forge... We'll find a way. Just look and Geomerging, Interlocking, and The Budget Glitch. We all found those so how can't we find a small flaw in the OLN.
