generally speaking. That really isn't that great of an argument though. because most people really aren't that great at making signatures and images like that. Quality of the work is all that matters; nothing about the rules of thirds and whatnot. as long as the quality of it is excellent, then you can put the focal point where ever you damn please.
Yeah, but having a focal point in the center obstructs flow... and, again, keeps the viewers eyes stuck in the center.
How can you say that my eyes are stuck in the center if the focal point is in the center. I believe I decide where my eyes stare, not you, nor the focal point.
You make me want to cry at the prospect of actual designers developing like you. Seriously, though you know what measures quality? Not the amount of filters used on unoriginal artwork, no... those are just gimmicks. What truly makes a good image are things like the rule of thirds, which is just one element a designer can use in deciding his or her layout,
i still don't understand what you mean by it obstructs flow. The flow will be obstructed somewhat no matter what you do, even if you use the rule of thirds, because your eye is going to be constantly drawn to that part of the image. As long as there's something going on throughout the whole piece, even if the true focal point is in the center, its not going to obstruct the flow.
Personally I don't think it would look amazing if you made a centre focal sig but it probably could look better non centered but just becuase I am going to make a centerd Focal Sig....tomorow....after I get home from skool so hopefully by tomorow night I can post a new thread up for ya'll to spam with your THINKINGZ!
Quality can be used to describe a piece of machinery, an act, and things of that nature. It cannot describe what is based on opinion.
Well, now that I know you're completely clueless about design, I don't feel as bad just dropping away from this conversation... You seem to only know the catch phrases "focal point" "rule of thirds" and well, that's about it. Study up a bit, there's a whole lot more design theory.
design theory, shmeory. You're too afraid to break away from those rules and prove me wrong. If you think you're right, and you can make a really good sig, put the effort into it to prove yourself right.
Yeah, but you know what can judge quality? Popular opinion. Generally speaking, there's a rule that images are judged by, which is why we can look at an image and we can tell if it's amazing or just another image. Sure, there's a lot of personal interpretation because it is an art form, but there's also a theory to it, like there's a theory to music... There are certain things that look better than others... centered images can look good, but generally speaking, they don't look the best they can.
See, there's the difference between you and I, based on your "points" (using that term loosely, of course), I feel absolutely no need to prove myself to you... especially to you. That, and signatures are to graphic art as jingles are to music. Yeah, I'd rather not waste my time.
There was once a study where there were 10 people in room with a chalkboard. Two lines would be drawn on the board, one long one and one short one. Nine of the people would have been confronted before the test and told to choose the shorter line when asked which line was longer. People would file into the room, and a test conductor would ask "Would you please raise your hand if you think this line is longer" while pointing to the smaller line. All nine confronted people would raise their hands and choose the technically incorrect line. Almost everytime, the last person who had not been talked to would, after noticing the others, raise their hand for the shorter line as well. Did the popular opinion that the shorter line was longer make it the longer line? No. There was once a popular saying by Abraham Lincoln. It read, "If you call the tail a leg, how many legs does a dog have. Four. Calling it a leg does not make it one." Popular opinion cannot decide the quality of a piece of art.
This entire thread is retarded. It's like reading youtube comments. It's people who know what they're talking about, people who think they have valid points, and others who are just here for the sake of arguing. You don't put things in the center because it's a rule made up for kicks, it's completely based on how humans perceive things. You don't do it, because the brain naturally finds it more interesting otherwise. You can't just change that. I'm not saying art is automatically terrible if you make the focal point in the center, but it's not a smart decision.
Um I do not know but I dont think it looks bad. If anyone of you dont know this argument started over the signature I made which can be found in graphic and arts lol about an hour ago. I had the focal point in the middle of the sig, withouth knowing of course lol
There are times when a signature is better with the focal in the center, than the outside. It's just like Diz saying pop-outs suck, but look at my signature. You just have to put it in the right hands of person.
On the other side of the argument, some of you guys take sigs a bit too seriously. They are sigs, not art for a huge advertising company commercial company. If you prefer to make **** in the center on a sig then go for it, it's your personal piece of work and if you like it then keep it, but if you're trying to appeal to the masses and $$$ is involved then its not an intelligent choice. okay, now you can end the thread. lol. really though, keep it going, just dont be retarded about it. it's an interesting argument.
