Huh I didnt realise the general consensus was dell=bad.
Were been using them for years and they seems fine.
Personally I can't stand macs....i dunno something about the OS doesnt agree with me.
I suppose if i stuck windows on it I wouldnt notice much. What is it exactly that makes the macs better?
Incidently whats a quad core when its at home?Four 2.0 Ghz processors?Sexah...

By may I should have something in the region of 1100 euro or 1415 dollars.
But if save say until august and get some money towards it from my parents I should be able to get up to roughly 1400 so 1800 or so dollars

Dell is NOT BAD. Unless you want to play games then it's one of the best choices you can make. I'm typing on one now, and I love it. Just make sure not to get one if you want to play games because the chip[set graphics card sucks arse.

i would try to get the RAMM at 800 Mhz because if you look at the CPU it runs at 800 Mhz
secondly i would change the hard drive to 7,200 RPM. Oh and you would want 2 gigs DDR3 or 4 DDR2, and make sure you get windows home premium 64-bit edition, this would allow you too change your RAMM to 8 gigs if you decided to, 32-bit can only read up to 3.8. And the last thing thing I would recommend is dropping the HDD to a 250 GIG Solid State Drive. Um well thats the best I can do with out knowing the price.

    I Hope this helps.

Oh and don't get a MAC they a too pricey and underpowered, if you want one for gaming go Alienware I myself have a area 51 M15-x. The reason that dell aren't the best is because the graphics card has normally doesn't have any dedicated memory, it takes it from the RAMM and that slows the PC down.

now for price Alienware's really aren't pricey for a base gaming laptop, like with the mine i have the base model and i can play most seriously demanding games with out a problem, and if you overclock the CPU there is no reason you couldn't play even Crysis on a high setting. (Crysis = really good PC)

Buy a desktop for gaming unless you want to spend stupid money/spend less and end up with a worthless machine.

    Vostro Studio XPS

    Intel® Core™i7-920 Processor(8MB L2 Cache, 2.66GHz)
2 Yr Ltd Warranty, On-site Service, and HW Warranty Supt
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1, 64-Bit
    8GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1066MHz - 6 DIMMs
    640GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache
Single Drive: 16X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability
Dell 23 inch Consumer™ S2309W Flat Panel, Adjustable Stand
    ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB
    Dell USB Consumer Multimedia Keyboard
    Dell Premium Laser Mouse
    McAfee SecurityCenter with anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall, 15-months

Download Open Office, AVG, buy some half decent non-ripoff speakers. Saves you money to spend on better components.

    $1,399
    for a Core i7, 64-bit computer with 8GB of DDR3 SDRAM

Alternatively, downgrade the graphics card and buy one stock, then install it yourself. You can get a Gigabyte Radeon HD 4850 1GB card for roughly the same price as Dell sells the 512MB card I believe.

    K thanks

If you want to play games, don't get a Mac. Some games you need to right click. Other than that, if you want a desktop, get a higher graphics card. I suggest an HD series 9800 of ATI or maybe an HD 9800 of something else, especially if you want to be able to play next year games seeing how a year old computer becomes slightly obsolete. Also, since it looks like you want a desk top, try to max the amount of RAM and get a high processor. 8 gig ram is good and a 3.2 processor is good too since some games can't even be played on anything under 3 ghz. Also for games get a large hard drive, you'll need it. For a laptop, you can get most of the above in a good laptop, except maybe the processor. I don't recall ever seeing a laptop processor above 3 ghz. Anyways, 6 gig RAM is the most I've seen in a laptop as of now too. They've got laptops with HD 9800 series video cards so no worry, the only downfall about a laptop could be it's battery life, screen size, or it's hard drive size. Most laptops have small hard drives, mine is 300 gigs, but it's all I need. Anyways, if you decide to get a laptop, I recommend getting higher priced Toshiba because I have never, ever had a problem with my Toshiba, that is yet of course (knocks on wood). If you're going with a desktop, well, I've only ever had an HP and Gateway which I hated both so I suggest you don't get either. I hear Ailenware are good and are top notch too. Other than that, I'm not sure about a Dell, but I don't see many people using Dells as gaming computers. Brand is your choice, good luck with finding your new PC.

Okay so I'm getting the laptop in the next few weeks.

We already have a desktop in the house so there isnt really room for one just for me.
A laptop was my choice for a good few reasons.
One I want a computer I can have with me when I'm staying with my dad or at my mum's house.
Considering what my older brother does to computers I want to make sure he doesnt touch it.
I like the idea of having all this stuff portable.
The current one i've picked out has 4gb's of ramm
2.5 duo core (so 5ghz total)-yeah jugg most computers laptops included have well over 3ghz
    and a NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 8600M GT with 256MB dedicated graphic memory

To be honest I would not trust myself mucking around inside a laptop, which is why i'd be inclined to stick with the dell installed graphics card.

What I'm wondering is if 64-bit vista is worth investing in?
While yeah it'll allow me to have over 4gb's of RAMM it apparently has alot of compatibility issues.Naturally the dell rep's are optimistic about these(theywant to flog me 8 gigs)
I was wondering if anyone has experienced 64-bit and can tell me whether its too much hassle.Considering I could just get a 64-bit ready machine and wait until it all becomes mainstream.

    I thought as much really.
In the interest of a possibly upgrading our desktop at some point how much hoop jumping is involved with 64-bit at the minute?
My brother briefly had it and couldn't even get his internet explorer to work with it.
Mind you he's a complete gobshite when it comes to computers so I'd hardly call that compelling evidence.

i have 64bit, no issues with anything, 8gb RAM ^^
If you want anything above 3gbRAM then you have to get 64bit, 32 doesn't recognize more than 3
