One thing you're not bringing into consideration is the ease of Forging on other maps. If you wanted to create a map on Avalanche that use the very edge so you are able to fall off of the map, you have to use the save and quit method to suspend objects over the ledge. To me that is very hard, and time consuming. On Sandbox, you just place them. It's so easy. If I wanted to make a Fort on Avalanche, I would have to worry about the hills and stuff that will make my Fort uneven. Again, in Sandbox I don't have to worry about that. I just want the easy way out because making a good Forge map is pretty hard as it is.
honestly, for me, recreation is key. I do things to enjoy myself, not make THE BEST MAP EVER. Making maps on foundry or anything else just isn't a fun thing to do, sure the outcomes of maps out there can be seriously awesome and full of fun, but i'm looking for a fun process. The **** process is just not for me. To **** around and enjoy, sandbox is perfect for it. Sandbox is the ultimate recreation of forge. Serious map makers and those trying to be original and optimize the outcome, may beg to differ i know, but originality shmoriginality. Can't wait for this.
I know exactly what you are saying... but with it being easy for you, it is also easy for others as well, which means that most people will have the potential to make good maps, but being featured isn't about having a good map if everyone has good maps... it's about being unique, standing out, doing something that no one else has done, or doing something better than someone else. That's what it means to be featured. That's what it means to be memorable. Is Eight Legs freaking amazing at being competitive and gameplay? Not really... there are bunches of other maps with most of the gametypes that play much better. But does anyone else build giant spiders on Blackout... no not really. I know why people will be forging on Sandbox... my point is, if you want your map to be recognized think outside the box and do what no one could ever possibly think of... like recreate a 3 stage RPG boss battle with hero class selection. That's how boss battle got featured. It couldn't be done on Foundry because it was too small... it couldn't be done on standoff because there weren't enough areas that were seperated... it had to be done on Rat's Nest despite the limited objects on there.. and it was pulled off. I'm just trying to help out the community not become stale... because without people like Cosmic Rick or TrueDark or Vicious Vice, everything would be the same... and how fun is eating pancakes for a year? Not very... (however you can use fruit toppings and what not, but eventually you've had it all... lol...)
That's how I would like to be, but competition always gets the best of me. I was like that when Foundry first came out. I would always strive to make my maps better than my friend's and get the most ratings and views lol But I don't think I will try and compete with the Forgers here. Some of you guys are insanely talented. Okay, now I think we have an understanding, and we should leave it at that.
Alright... HIGH FIVE!!! Anyways... I look forward to taking ALL of the gametypes that didn't completely work on any other maps and make them work on Sandbox... I'll show you innovation folks that's what the AZN is all about, eh? Anyways, anyone interested in playing fun unique gametypes TGIF style, send me an FR and jump on the xbox for Thank God it's Asian Day [TGIAD] in about 45 mins. This is great for those of you who normally miss it, or get a lame party... lol... at this time we will also discuss ideas for Sandbox utilization...
If you read AZN's Anti-Foundry theory, it'll make a lot of sense about why Foundry and Sanbox should be last resort maps for Forge.
I love you Rhinestorm, lol... j/k but seriously... and It took me like 40 mins to geo-merge two ramps into the side of avalanche perfectly... I haz sad face. Geo-merging won't be as predominant in Sandbox, but I'm sure their will be important places where it will be used... TGIAD in about 15 mins folks... I'm going on the xbox... laterz... just downloaded some more features from FH as well... it's going to be a blast...
There has to be something said for creating your own custom geometry. If the idea you have can be done on another map using that maps geometry then fine, but not all maps can be utilized like Foundry can and Sandbox will.
lmao I'll come. But I might leave every 2 minutes to check for the weekly update... And I get what you've been saying AZN, but that will be in a few months. You should save your "no Sandbox" rant for later. You can't tell people not to forge on Sandbox right now, with it being only 2 weeks away. They can forge on Sandbox now, while I make something on Assembly. How come you never talked about forging on other Mythic maps? That's what I'm going to do while I enjoy other people's maps on Sandbox.
Yea it will be sandbox for a while because every time a new map comes out, people start to forge on it and just builds from there, but eventually,a lot of people will go back to foundry if sandbox isnt as good as everybody thinks
Trust me, it's already better than what we were hoping for it to be. Sandbox will be dominating the Map Forums, whether you like it or not.
The Crypt Hidden deep below the weathered sand and stone of Sandbox's ground-level lies a dark and dank hollowed out space - a basement, if you will. Capstone removed from the floor above, explorers can take a leap of faith down the ominous chute into the interior of the Crypt. And what will they find? Well, nothing. It's just an empty space. Like the rest of Sandbox's layers, the initial form is merely a blank slate. The Crypt From Afar and Under Construction We've found the damp space well-suited for Grifball matches, good for some sweet rounds of Team Slayer on Tundra, and an awesome place to throw in some unique Zombies variants. But with Forge, you'll be making plenty of other things, using it however you see fit. To talk a bit about the addition of this third layer of Sandbox's complete environment, and further, about the map's overall design concept, we've turned once again to designers Dan Miller and Lars Bakken and asked them to drop some sweet Sandbox knowledge. Tundra's Blueprint For Sense of Scale, Triangulate Grifball from Afar Ceremonial Fire Kali-Ma And then they tell two friends, And then they tell two friends, And then they tell two friends...
Forge on Sandbox, don't forge on sandbox. The forums will be flooded with sandbox maps, bla bla bla bla. who the **** cares people. Yes a **** load o maps in the future will be on Sandbox, just like a **** load of current maps are on foundry. That's what they are designed for, but you know what I've noticed? People still use the other maps. Hell I played a custom map variant from one of my non-forgehub mates on High Ground the other day. Sandbox may be the ultimate forging map but it does not offer everything a forger could want so people will still use the other maps, including foundry. Stop bitching about it. all it means it that you have no more good map ideas and are trying to bring everyone else down to your level by telling them they should not be using a map that was made for the purpose of being used.
I Just thought I'd put them all up for you guys. I'm so excited for this, I will still be using the sky bubble first however.
