I don't know about you guys, but I'm totally ditching Foundry once Sandbox comes out.

I don't care if it has different aesthetics for urban maps and whatnot.. I won't be making urban maps anyway.

Sandbox will be the ultimate Forging map, and I'll find it very hard to forge on other maps.

Really? I think that there may still be some uses for foundry. Things you cant do or would take a lot more effort to do. For example a small enclosed map would be easier in foundry then on sandbox. Unless there is an underground level which turns out to be a room of some sort like foundry. But what do i know. I'm not what you would call an expert forger

True, but even if there isn't an underground, I wouldn't really forge on Foundry.

Maybe if I get a really really sweet idea for an enclosed map.. but I'm not promising anything.

I'm more of a guy that likes to create things in big spaces. That's why I LOVE the Far Cry 2 editor.. and that's why I know I'll like Sandbox.

EDIT: Idk if this was already posted, but someone messed with the source code on those game viewer pages of Sandbox, and they found this:

    I give you "The Hole"!

EDIT 2: Blast, it was posted on page 250.

Oh well, here it is again. :p

Well, I actually found it in a private faction on Gametrailers.com, so giving you the link would be useless.

I don't know where he found it though.

6 EST. wait-actually I don't know. I'm very bad at converting pacific to eastern.

Between 2:30 to about 5:30 pacific time. So that's 5:30 to 8:30 eastern.

Like it does every week. Hopefully they will tell us if we are wrong or right about the hole. I've been sick for 2 days and waiting for it, so they'd better tell us.

How could it not be a hole? look at all the evidence. If it's something else i'd love to know where the bottom pit is located.

Foundry will be used by people who haven't bought sandbox, and lazies who want the walls to be there already. There is nothing that can be done on Foundry that can't be replicated on Sandbox. As I pointed out earlier, soccer balls. And upon closer inspection, small shield doors and fence walls/boxes (possibly a loss).

The addition of such things as half and quarter walls, tunnel pieces, fins, and such will almost negate the need to geomerge/interlock anything (unless you're going for odd angles), something that less skilled forgers like myself will love. Now all they need is a lock-on grid and undo button and I'll bust a nut.

Also, someone earlier in the thread expressed discontent at the lack of transport Warthogs, only to get rebuked with a 'lol ez triple/overkill'. How awesome would Rocket Race be, with 3 rocketeers in tow? In a vehicle big enough to splatter that dickhead griefer? It's fun now playing it with Gauss hogs.

    You forgot Sandtrap.

Why woould foundry be better for small enclosed maps? Sandbox has way more supplys and therefor you can do a better job blocking it off and putting more variety into it, plus there are death barriers so you can have open parts on the map.

I fully agree with this, although i also partially agree with the fact that foundry, though not as good as sandbox, will still be used for some types of maps. But for the majority sandbox has taken over.

Yes i suppose. But then again i am not an expert forger. I find setting up boxes boring and tedious. However in foundry there is already a great big wall to help you out and it is smaller then sandbox (though there i'm counting on the fact that this underground level is bigger then foundry).
There is also the back area of foundry which to be honest i don't think you will find anywhere in sandbox unless you make it. This may turn out to be a pointless arguement when we get more details on the pit/hole/underground. but bear in mind again that i am not an expert forger.

Quick recap on why foundry will get abandoned, since these two pieces of information haven't appeared in the same post yet:

People will abandon Foundry for sandbox, because SANDBOX HAS A BASEMENT PORTION. With a much larger budget, and a huge ammount of extra box objects, you can make anything you'd like down there, easy. IT DOES FOUNDRY'S JOB BETTER THAN FOUNDRY.

Tell me exactly, who isn't going to buy them? If you're interested in forge, sandbox IS WORTH THE PRICE OF THE MAP PACK ALONE to you. The only reason to not get is if you can't afford it.. but most forgers are 14+ years old, and I never had trouble scrounging up 10 bucks back then, nevermind the 16+ crowd, who -do- (or can) have jobs.

Foundry will become a relic of the past, except to the younger folk who can't talk their parents into a couple of dollars for maps.

Quick recap on why foundry will not get abandoned, people will see it and say "oh wow a map that isnt on sandbox, good job using foundry dude i might check it out" or "wicked a foundry map i am SO sick of all these sky bases on sandbox". Just like they say whenever a pre-DLC map is posted now.

True, foundry will probably be abandoned but there are some differences between foundry and sandbox. Colour and scenery. By this I mean if you want to make a sandy, orangey colour then you'd use sandbox but if you want to make a sort of industrial more earth and UNSC settings then you'd probably use foundry. However i'm pretty sure sandbox will be much more used then foundry but i don't think foundry will just die out like that.

Although I know I won't be forging on Foundry again, that's not to say other people won't.

I'm sure we'll still see our fair share of Foundry variants.. and I'm sure they'll still be amazing.

But within like the first month of Sandbox's release, I doubt we'll see any Foundry variants.

So now we all know that TransactionZero, the king of pancakes, did not deceive us. Three tiers for sandbox! Hooray!
