I didn't misread it. I've been well aware of OLN (before it was even called that). It's been in every map before. Bungie was just letting us know of it's existance. No one should be freaking out about this. It will be just like any map. Exactly. Now let me tell you guys how the OLN works, and has been working. Most of us were just unaware. I got this from a bnet user btw:
It's pretty simple. You don't even have to factor the traditional dollar budget in. There's an object limit. The objects in the default variant count against it, whether you delete them or not. Therefor, if you're going to be building maps that use a ton of objects, use the objects already in place.
Alot of us already got this, but thank you for putting it in simpler terms for some of these people. (By the way I loved the pancake post you made)
So, you're saying that sandbox will work just like foundry in terms of budget, item limit, and object limit. No trickery? Because the update was misleading in that regard. The update made it sound like you lose part of your OLN if you delete any original part of sandbox, which in the long run will affect your map. To put it differently, it made it sound like if we started from a blank canvas we'll only have around $510 if not even being able to fully utilize our budget. If that's the case it will only be more of a hassle forging, but it isn' that big of a deal, just a minor inconvience. If sandbox works just like foundry, then you might want to emphasize that point and let people know that the OLN wasn't noticeable in foundry due to foundry's smaller budget. It would help clarify what you're saying in the update.
Here is a nice and general question for urk and the rest of bungie: This is a 1-2 word answer: more, less, or much more. What is the object limit number in Sandbox compared to Foundry?
I could leave you to guess what the final budget will be. For all I know, the budget will be $510 when you first go into Sandbox in Forge. I know I'm not a Bungie employee, but I'd thought I just let you know just in case you didn't.
Think of Sandbox in terms of a budget glitched foundry. If you delete an item, the run time maximum will drop. My bet is, though, that we can raise it back up by deleting an object, saving, quitting, then going back in and raising it back up.. much like glitching a canvas. But, from what I gather, the actual budget of Sandbox is meaningless, as we most likely won't be reaching it. It'd be nice if there was an object counter rather than a budget counter if that's the case, which from what i read, is. Sadly, they said Forge itself isn't changing, so that won't happen.
Yup. The update wasn't misleading. It's just more common to come close to the object limit on Sandbox then it is on Foundry, so we thought we'd let you know the best way to get the most out of the objects already on the map.
So are you telling me that this whole time we have been using the Foundry canvas we would have had a higher item limit by just using the default? Aww... how misleading! At least we are going to be able to make fun of the first couple people releasing Sandbox Canvas's to get some extra downloads. Bye bye budget glitch and geomerging! Hello non use of canvas's!
that's just dirty dirty shenanigans mg: Y must though make it harder to forge LDKjf;alskdyf, it would be nice if, in the map, you made a certain area, only accesible in forge, that people who make "Canvases" could put crap, so it doesnt interfere with the map, but is easily accesible whenever it is needed, and doesnt clutter the work space
lol, too bad we didn't know this sooner. But now we know, and knowing is half the battle. I think I'll make a Sandbox Canvas just to get the downloads. j/k j/k, but it would be funny.
people need to make canvases, just ones with all like objects merged together on some obscure part of the map,
Nope, the limit would have been the same and in Foundry, unless you're just spawning a crapload of $1 objects, you would have ran out of Budget first anyway, but by all means, pretend you've been duped.
Yeah, that's true. I still won't make one because I think it's useless anyway. I'll just get a canvas from someone else.
Was this item deletion limit intended, or only discovered after tests had been made? If so, is it something Bungie is willing to possibly tweak/fix in a future update?
Y'all just had to do something to our dream forging map to make it not so perfect didn't you? What if the map we want to build doesn't use some of the items that area already on the map but deleting it would be the same as just leaving it there? Either way we won't be able to get the piece we need.
