The kill ball limitations make me happy... the more limitation that are set on a builder, the better chance that "true" map builders are able to shine. THere would be limitless possiblilities with sizable kill balls, nonetheless more than 2. Look at Foundry, geo-merging, and interlocking. It seems that the common forger can now forge great "looking" maps. It's harder to search through the rubble to find the gold... and with sandbox comes hundreds and thousands more rubble to sort through... *sigh* I pray that this community doesn't sink further into the dull map trend...

And with the OLN working on Sandbox the way that it does, I am speculating whether or not it works the same way on the other maps. I'm assuming so, because no programmer wants to do different functional programming for one thing, when he could do one thing for ALL things... so I'm assuming OLN works the same way on every map. I think that was our hint folks...

P.S. Welcome back, my good ol' friend Lance...

Yes, the OLN has always been present and it will still work the same way in Sandbox. Bungie just wanted to remind us of it's existance, and to give us a way to make the most out of our maps.

I'm glad they said that, so now I really won't have to worry about the OLN too much. I've already ran into it in a couple of my maps on Foundry. o_O

Well, at least we've got a grid. Lining up stuff will be much easier if we can get stuff straight in the first place. The kill balls sound fun, but how many are there? Has to be a ton you would think. Also, the whole item limit thing doesn't sound like to much of a problem. At least they warned us about it before the release and gave us that tip about keeping the original items on there while building so we can use those and the other budget.

No, you misread what the update was saying. This is an more insidious version of the OLN we have found all too common among our maps. The biggest headache the OLN has caused is among budget glitched maps. This, this is just sad to me. Now we have to keep track of all the original objects. We can't delete them if we want to utilize the most we can. What if we don't want any vehicles, well you can't trade in those mongooses, warthogs, and choppers. This is an inconvienent roadblock to map building.

They didn't say you can't resize/reshape killballs, just that you can only have two.

But if you can't resize them, then I honestly cannot see a point to them. I was really hoping to be able to build floating maps.

Shishka, Urk, someone, please let us know if we can resize/reshape the killballs.

With all these new features I think the item limit will be the worst of them. I'm pretty sure Bungie said that they will feature maps (or maybe it was about being able to use them in matchmaking...) if the map is budgeted. Sucky. Very sucky that we have more limitations. In some ways it's good to have limitations. Like geomerging. That was getting out of hand. It was getting overused and made other maps look bad. Geomerging was the main reason that I stopped forging. I think if they have things that take less time to make, then there will be more chances for all to succeed. Not just the ones who have more time than others.

An interesting theory that may interest you. I can't wait for this. I really want to make some nice maps here. The OLN will be troublesome, but as Lars said, they have building blocks of every kind. Plus, the killball seems pretty sweet. I hope we can resize it. Sandbox itself seems like it'll be great for all kinds of games and maps, and it seems best to build..buildings, there. Heh.
    :cry:Hurry up Bungeh! :(

People don't understand the OLN. It has always been there, even on Foundry.. In fact, if we did not delete the Foundry default objects, we would have more objects to work with than we do from a Canvas map.

They didn't add this to Sandbox, we are just now being informed of it.

I know we've always had the OLN, it just seems like it'll be a more pressing issue with how much Bungie implies on it.

this oln is different as they said. More times they have run into the item limit than the budget limit. That will suck because now we don't know for sure when our limit will run out. If it does then we may be screwed.

Yeah, it's always been there. We're only calling attention to it because there's a good chance you'll hit it after you place a heaping pile of stuff. It's not a bad thing.

Say urk, what happens to be the budget for Sandbox? Or is that secret until we get our hands on it?

I don't think it's super top secret, but I don't know it off hand. I'm pretty sure you can see it in some of the screens released, minus what's already in play, of course.

I'm confused on how the OLN works,

if there are 24 double boxes placable and 4 are already on the map, and if we delete those four can we only place 20?

I have a question for urk or Shishka:

Has the aspect or aspects of Sandbox that make it "like no other" map been made known to us yet?
