When I first read Kill Ball I imagined and area which, when you walk in to it, activates a ball which comes down and squishes you. Sort of like the idea I had for Avalanche map boundries, balls woild be thrown along paths at high speeds and would kill anyone who tried to cross the path. But if the Kill Balls were movable then that would be really funny! And someone quoted earlier: I don't want to start sparking horrible theories but could that have something to do with the tunnels? Or perhaps he just means that with the Kill Balls we can now start a map in the air to make a floating map so you would be able to build up and down?
Well at least this has answered my question as to whether the KillBall was equipment or forge object. We now know it's a forge object only, makes more sense really. I'm still not 100% about the KillBall shape being adjustable. If it's specifically called a "Kill Ball" then I don't see why it would have a "Square" option, like respawn areas and territory markers, e.t.c. The size thing might be true though, but if it remains a "Ball" as it gets bigger, then that means it would get higher too. So say you wanted to make it cover the ground, that means it would also extend up extremely high into the sky as well, so hmmmmmmmmmmm. I'm curious as to what the tunnels are going to be as well, and how they differ from Open Boxes. I was thinking maybe they'd be more like long archways, you know like a tunnel bridge type thing (like a canal tunnel). Or perhaps they're like a "Pipe" object, so they're completely cylindrical.
Originally that's what I pictured as well, that the kill ball is a latent defense, so like maybe a explosion occurs when you step into the kill zone. That would fall in line with other boundary defenses, like the missiles on Sandtrap and the guns on Snowbound. That would also explain how a square or rectangular shaped kill ball would work. I mean, a big ball of flames whose edges create perfect right angles would look pretty odd. So maybe it's just the area of the potential kill ball explosion that you're actually customizing? Assuming it actually is a continuous vortex of fiery explosions then, yeah, the idea of customizing the object does seem odd to me. But the graphical effect of the kill ball would probably be much less intense than an actual explosion, something subtle like the lighted area around a VIP zone, or what a spawn zone looks like when in forge mode. If the texture of the kill ball is similar to those things than it's not hard to make that leap in logic and assume that, like those other textures, the area of the kill ball can be adjusted. Also, from a design standpoint, it makes sense to have an adjustable kill ball area: - A solution to the boundary issue. Otherwise vehicles can just ignore whatever map you make and drive around on the sand dunes. - A set death ball area would encourage backwards design. It's unlikely that any map you have in mind would just happen to call for this very specific sphere shape, you would need to design your map around the kill ball. - The object serves no purpose if the size is set in stone. You obviously wouldn't voluntarily walk into the kill ball, so what would it be besides a spherical obstacle? It would be little more than a fancy looking wall. Or I don't know. Maybe maybe Bungie just took a bubble shield, retextured it, set it to kill instead of protect, and made it a forge object.
maybe a magical unicorn flys down and stabs you with its horn and ten throws you into permaban hell when you go in the killball. I'm positive that bungie just made it kill anyone who gets in it instantly, not with explosions or anything. its more than likely just drop down dead than anything.
Maybe the underground tunnels are like Sandtrap/TARP and the Elephants. In one version of the map, the entrance to the tunnels are there, in another they aren't.
Lol at first part made me rofl. Second part is true, people are speculating, the resizable is very possible, but tunnels etc that remove the gorund? That would cause some serious lag for the map to work out were to remove the floor etc?
yeah i think people are putting too much thought into this. like 30 pages back there was an illustration that someone used to clearly show that the so called "tunnels" are really just a vacant area underneath the bases. also, we as of yet do not know the official configuration of sandbox, as i have seen 2-3 viable ones. the 1st is the commonly accepted one, the 2nd is one with walls around the entire thing, like a base map for one sided assault, and a third one thats just different from the first 2, but a little emptier. wish i could get pics to show u guys. oh, if there are any admins, can u plz ban me for 2 days? i need to focus on schoolwork. kthxbai
A ground level to forge on, something in the sky to forge on, and something in the ground to forge on, etc. When in a player match these areas would not be accessible. However, in a forge session they would be.
I'm not getting my hopes up for a resizable death ball. While I'd like to think that its possible, I don't want to get my hopes up. I'm only going off of what I see. And I see an orange ball that, according to Bungie, kills you.
that would defeat the purpose of forging. unless you could uncover the area in forge and allow players to go inside the area. otherwise, whats the point? and once again, THERE ARE NO TUNNELS UNDER THE MAP!!! ITS JUST AN EMPTY SPACE UNDER THE BASE WHERE THE FLAG PROBLY IS!
A forger builds in area one. The players in the match are limited to area one. Unless the forger gives them access to the other areas.
And how do you know that? Exactly, you don't, that's just your opinion so you can't exactly say there ARE NO tunnels. EDIT: I actually like that idea Transaction, it would make forging a lot easier and you wouldn't have to block areas off, highly doubt they've done it though :/
Yea but he also said we got Foundry as part o the Legendary Map Pack... Could also just mean we'll get more than one death ball. I didn't read that anywhere but ****ing hell would that be cool. Maybe you can adjust vertical and horizontal diameters. Make an oval rather than a sphere in other words. Would still be ball shaped. Also doing it that way means you can control how thick it is. Just like Territories/Hills/Go to points and respawn areas you can change height, width depth and bottom level. Just with the Kill ball you can't make it box shape.
Err yeah the pancake theory is bullshit. We were just fooling around and twisting Urks innocent comment about having pancakes. There is no pancake theory, there are no tiers. All the original pancake posts were laced with satire and sarcasm which apparently have been missed.
Has anyone taken the time to embed all the pictures from IGN.com and put them on a thread for people to look at on forgehub so that they dont have to go to IGN? I was going to do that..
If it makes any difference, I caught your sarcasm from day one. Others, sadly, have run with it. When they were discussing "tunnels" the were refering to open box-like tunnels, which can be added together seamlessly to create a hallway. The grid image we saw a long time ago is a corner piece to this "hallway" system. I wouldn't expect an underground system folks.
