    Hey everybody,
My mom was looking for a place i could play football soon(I'm huge, 5' 7", 165 lbs), but couldn't find any place. however, she did find an ad for a Halo 3 tournament RIGHT IN MY TOWN!!! I am so lucky. I've never done any of these before however, and need advice on how to get a leg up. I'm really in it for the fun, but I'd like to p0wn some ass at the same time. any suggestions?

Most Halo tournaments are MLG, so get a good team together for 4v4's and play MLG in MM a lot.

I don't think it's MLG, and I had to ship out my $100 Xbox Wireless Adapter to get fixed, so I can't really do anything other than practice by myself on like legendary or something. I mean I might get a little extra time to practice with like my dad or something, nut he's not good at video games, so it wouldn't be a challenge.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure it's just an unnofficial fun sort of thing, it's on base at Camp Lejuene, Jacksonville, NC. I just don't see an MLG tournament being hosted at a marine base. IDK though, I'll have to look it up.

It's probably just normal Slayer or Team Slayer or Team BRs, or simple competitive objectives (Multi Flag).

Obviously, the best way is play against players and in matchmaking...if you can't do that, try to get friends to practice your shot/strafing, that may help you practice. I've been in a couple casual contests (didn't win though :( )

Honestly, if you think that playing legendary or playing against your dad is gonna help you prepare, you probably shouldn't go expecting to win. You can still go to have fun and have a good time, but you probably won't do very well if you're thinking that campaign will help you.

As for actual practice, playing MLG will probably help you the most.

Learn the spawn times for all the power weapons and power ups, remember to always have the higher ground on your opponent, and remember to not always rush in when you spawn. Take time to get some type of power weapon you can use against your opponent.

go to justin.tv and go to the gaming section and watch some people play halo 3 mlg mm at a very high level. Think of what you would do in their situation, then just see how they handle it. You probably wont improve your skills that much from actually playing halo. because halo is just a bunch different concepts into one like flowing game. i.e. reaction time. I would then suggest you upping your sensativity and just play on like normal campaign. or do things on the computer to increase your reaction time. just like google reaction time test. and improve your time. Watch the MlGs on youtube. idk. hope it helped. i have only competed in 3 LAN tournaments two were FFA's and i won both. And a doubles tournament which we came out on top again. Goodluck.

I wouldn't classify that as huge, depending on how old you are.

Campaign is no way to practise, as Novak said, probably the best form of training would be to play MLG.

Calm down mate, there's no point getting annoyed at people when you're asking for help, and I wouldn't "yell" at a mod either =P. MLG is the way to go, campaign will not help you in the slightest, neither will splitscreen games, at least not to the extent that you would want really. Without Live, there is little you can do to improve other than watch MLG games on youtube I guess to learn techniques. Any practise games you do play splitscreen should be MLG settings though; learn that BR and you will have a fair chance. I suggest getting a guest in just to BR you constantly in the centre of Guardian or something whilst you practise your strafe, then switch and you practise your BR against his strafe. Simple exercise, but it pays off.

Try to switch to Bumper Jumper (if the competition is more than a month away, if not don't bother), it's better for BR-ing.

Once you get your wireless dongle fixed, go into Team Swat and MLG and stuff. And learn the spawn points of power weapons on maps like Guardian, The Pit, Isolation etc.

So, it's team? If it's team go recruiting at your school. Play at your friend's house or invite people to your house who you know/think are good and discuss setups and such. Using the heatmaps (not studying them, like using them to say where you should setup) to say where you should go at the beginning of the game.

the thing is, i take school online through the university of missouri,so i cant really go to any friends house, as there aren't any people my age on the street. so i think the best thing i can do is practice BRing on a map someone made, where fusion coils fall down and you have to br them. problem is, i dont know if i have the map or not. if not, i could probably recreate it.

so once again, if i had no choice but to practice on campaign, what level/difficulty should i choose?

it';s just a show up and play event. its nothing official, so its probably just normal settings or something. i hope its team though, cuz i suck ass at FFA, unless its rockets.
