Maybe the ball is the thing that selects the environment if that is still customizable!

Compare the curviture? You can only see one segment and then a little fraction of the second one, how in the world can you assume its sunk down lower with just that information? Even if you eyeball it and complete the circle to the ground that way you get the same result... a half sphere.

If it's non-visible in-game, then you can just put random Kill Balls around the map, and no one will know where they are.

Imagine tricking your friends with those. They would like "wtf?" It would be hilarious.

if your talking about the orange "kill ball" we know it actually is a kill ball, it says in the IGN article about the mythic maps, there is a link to the article on bungie.net

IGN: Halo 3 Mythic Map Pack Interview and right here

That would be no different than Instant kill fast moving zombies and unlimited ammo humans. Only noobs would do it. The rest of us would use them effectively to create interesting effects on gameplay.

I can imagine some completely enclosed maps on sandbox. I think they would feel extremely cool and unique (until everyone does it). On the topic of bridges, personally I think that heroic and legendary bridges would look strange on sandbox. I like the wooden bridges, but I think a forerunner themed bridge like the one we have would be awesome.

Of course. That's why it would be fun to trick your unknowing friends.

I think I will only use the kill balls for of course creating maps that you can "fall" off of, and my own little secret project.

if it were like that , i bet there would be a choice to make it visible or not, but i bet i will be visible, who wouldnt love a big glowing death ball in the center of their map, or at the end of a chute on their infection map.

invisible would be good for floating maps though

I actually foresee a great variety of maps coming from this one. We have every kind of Forging space we could want here with untold forgable items in greater numbers than we have every had before.

If you don't want a flat surface, you can use the dunes. Want a floating map? This one should be at least as tall as sandtrap. And of course the flat grid marked map centre.

Litterally limitless forging oportunities from one map.

We can finally recreate that classic kid's game "The ground is Lava". The Kill Balls actually sort of look like lava. ;)

On a somewhat related note, anyone have a guess where the skull might be?

(wishful thinking) it would be cool if you could set the deathmurderkill balls to turn on for a set amount of time, then off, then on then off, could be used for impromptu explosions, map hazards, ex. the rocket room is actually a furnace that turns on ever so often, get the n00b tube at your own risk.

The floor is lava would be fun, and some sick maps would arise from the depths. And my money is skull is spawnable. but you mjust already have certain crap spawned. to bring budget to 777.

Lol, that sounds awesome... and from the pictures it looks like the filters directly effect the time-of-day look, not just "put all filters on and it's night!!!". I am really excited.

Not likely. The reason the moon would be in that pic is because you're looking at a different side of the map.

    Hmm..

Now that only raises more questions. Thanks, Bungie!

Err.. or should I blame IGN?

    Nah, I blame stosh.
