Well no death barriers but death balls!! Lars Bakken: On top of just about every kind of building block (we hope) you could ever want, there are some cool new goodies too. We have tunnels now, different sized door frames (like ones that are crouch height), and some extra things that we can't talk about yet. One of our favorites though has to be the "Kill Ball." It's essentially a big sphere that kills anything that is foolish enough to enter. Justin Hayward, our art director, was able to cook up a red and blue dynamic light object that will allow players to place them around the map to differentiate bases easier. Filters Lars Bakken: Well, Forge itself didn’t see any changes, but the amount of objects you have at your disposal is pretty ridiculous. We added a few new goodies specifically to Sandbox as well. On top of the screen effect filters (which are back) [you can also check them out in the screenshots – T3], there are now a couple dynamic lights to throw around. There is also a new fun object we lovingly call the “Kill Ball.” It basically lets you set up areas where anything that enters it, will be killed. That should offer some fun new possibilities for players and map designers. Brian Jarrard The Mythic Map Pack will cost 800 points once it’s available for download from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace.
And those screenshots also resolve that silly shadow arguement! The entire map is under flood lights! Do you think the Kill Ball will just be a ball or will it be there be an option to be a Kill Box, too? Either way we can still make floating maps where you can fall to your death! I'm quite excited now!
I cant wait to see how this "kill ball" will turn out, it kind of reminds me of the times where you would throw a trip mine in front of an incoming warthog and the the flaming vehicle would burst right in front of you simultaneously flying over your head. lol I wonder if you could throw this in front of you really quick in the same predicament.
I think its going to be like vip zones, and territory zones. You can pick Square or circle and how big the radius is.
Ok so basically you can choose how big the radius is? That makes no sense, so basically you can make the radius the size of the whole map and everyone on that map dies? Or is there a certain limit to go by because i know one thing, People are always going to make it as big as possible
I'm sure there is a limit to it... And I was only guessing. Nobody has released anything definite about it besides the fact that its a ball, and that it kills.
What will Sandbox mean for Forge Hub? Let's say I'm working on something on Foundry, and it probably won't be done before Sandbox releases, and the flood of Sandbox maps lay waste to the forums. Will my map be ignored when I post it, because it's on Foundry?
Actually squid you're a little off. If you'll notice in the sandbox base the double box appears after the second double wall. In your sketchup you have the double box appear after one double wall leaving half a box of walkspace. Here's a Download Link to the sandbox base mock up that I made: Enjoy
So the death ball wont be a piece of equipment? It will be an object on forge that you can place in your map to create something unique out of it because now we dont have to make death spawns we can use these lol
The biggest thing I'm looking forward to is lining these up on the ground, so I can have a map in the air that will actually kill you if you fall I'm gona make a map that mixes Guardian and Epitaph.
I'm pretty sure something like the deathball was going to be equipment, I read that somewhere, but they removed it due to balance issues. ORLY? Anyway I hope the death ball becomes the death box, that would make building maps that much easier. AKA no more walls.
Well, the thing is that we don't know how many we will have at our disposal. Hopefully it will be more than 4... or they are just expandable like someone else said. I, too will make maps where you die when you fall off. No more using teleporters to do it!
Finally then, bungie makes something that forgers can actually use to their advantage besides wasteful things that they gave us on foundry. Wow I can not wait the only problem i can think of from using these as death pits would be running out of them
I wish bungie will add a death barrier that forgers can actually implement into their maps. This would make forging in general totally more professional because then people could make maps such as epitaph or guardian as what Scare Crow made in the air on Sandbox, then put the death barrier at the bottom of the map from when they fall off
Okay so I'm late to the game here... somebody back in the 70's (pages) pointed out that there aren't any doors for geomerges. I think the killballs might have the same properties. One of the pics shows a killball as a half sphere... but its a ball. Meaning it must be merged into the floor... like a door! So, as long as it still pushes objects like doors do and doesn't act like a respawn area, it might work. Unless of course geomerging and interlocking doesn't work on Sandbox. I have a feeling that Budget glitches might be fixed on the new maps, so maybe other exploits have been fixed. Also, Sketchup FTW. I see it becoming a standard for forging.
well, not to be too technical here, but if it is a "Kill Ball" you wouldant be able to make a square and change the radius of it as it is not circular. lolz, it will be interesting to see how it turns out, i wonder if itll b like a nuclear bomb looking affect. where you step into it and plumes of smoke and explosion just pushes upwards near the sky.
