Alright first I wasn't really sure where to post this because this can be debatable but also doesn't have to be. But we'll see as people discuss this.

I've always thought about maturity and what people think of it. From what I've seen in real life and on the internet this word, mature, is thrown around. I made this thread to learn a little, as talk about it. Isn't that was debating is about? Anyway I looked up "mature" in the dictionary and there were plenty of definitions with growth and development or restrictions to adult content, but this is not the mature I'm talking about. I'm talking about the state of mind when one is mature or immature.

What exactly is being mature or immature? When I play games like Halo 3 on live I hear people saying, "Wow dude your such an immature person". This can be towards me or others. Sure we all have a general definition of being mature of immature in our heads. From what I've seen in life most people think being mature is to not make such ridiculous statements or childish comments. Yet I see and meet kids that are very mature and others who are very immature. Many people refer to being mature or immature have relations with joking or messing with people.

People make jokes of all sorts containing racism or sexism. And many people call these jokes immature. Others are like "Your momma" or "That's what she said". Sure I agree these can be immature. I've heard that people need to grow up and be mature, to not be immature. Even though I agree with part of this, but what fun exactly is there without immaturity?

Many people say being mature is to be serious. What? There are plenty of people here that are mature, yet they can make immature jokes. So here is my half theory of maturity:
To be mature is to know when to have a mind of seriousness and when to childish statements. I think that if you know when to be mature or immature, that is truly being mature. I know it's kind of confusing and silly.

I will say this. I know I can be immature at sometimes and I know I can be mature. You can ask some people on forgehub and they'll tell you. But I came here to learn because I know I'm not completely right on what I wrote. So please teach me.

Write what you think maturity and immaturity is. Please discuss, but don't bash on other's opinions. I don't want to argue, I want to debate. Thanks!

There comes a time when EVERYONE has to get rid of that immature feeling, whether it's when they get married and have kids or when at a young age and gets annoyed by other immature kids.

Maturity has nothing to do with age. I could be a 70 year old women with saggy breasts and be super immature. Or I could be a 17 boy with alot of muscle and be mature. It doesnt matter really.

I have to be the most immature person in my school along with all my friends. I just never liked mature people. They were never any fun.

    and I support this comment.

Mature people never are that much fun. I say that you have to be open minded to all kinds of maturity. Otherwise you're being stubborn and there's no fun in having to deal with someone who wants to be overly mature. I knew a kid who was very popular who was the most mature kid I've ever known. At least he acted like it. But when it came down to fun and games he was almost always left out of it. I say that life would suck if there wasn't any immaturity.

My definition of maturity is being able to act like something larger than yourself.

That makes a little sense, but there are mature people that can also be fun. How does that work then?

NOOOO! This is not it! What if you had someone that said, "I wanna be like Buggs Bunny!"? That person is probably not mature. Besides, it's only human to try and be like people better than you.

    My defenition of maturity is:
"Knowing how serious you should be depending on the group/person you are with."
I mean, people that are mature would not go crazy around strangers and they would not be boring around well-known friends.

If they are never fun, then they are called, "too serious." Not mature.

You're right Nightfire pretty much everyone has a loose definition of what maturity and immaturity is. However, being mature is using your digression to be serious or not. For example take my friend "Joe". When me and "Joe" hang out we have a good ol' time saying whatever we want. IE being immature. While when I'm with my fiancee I am not as rambuncious as I am when I hang out with Joe. Joe tends to act immature in front of women and it is this reason why he cannot aquire one.
