Is that what Bungie is officially calling it? lol I just moved the "whatever-it-is" in the corner so it didn't get in the way....
Urk, what's it like to see all this speculation? How do you hold your tongue in silence? Do you squirm just a little when we get something right?
Someone on Bnet actually had a somewhat accurate sketchup of what Sandbox looked like a week before we all saw that picture. I think we guess a few things right here and there.... they're just drowned out by the possibility of AI bots and empty grid maps.
Just to apply some Science to what Urk is saying, Level of Detail (LOD) is a trick games use to reduce the cost of objects on the screen when they're at a distance. For any object that's not actually part of the environment geometry, we progressively swap the render model with models of lower polycount, and in some cases when the object is far enough away we "fade" it out and then stop rendering it all together. This is a fairly standard real-time technique. The goal is usually to maintain performance without affecting the player's immersion. Given that some folks didn't recognize what was going on I'd like to think we were at least somewhat successful in that regard.
No squirming, but plenty of laughter. As few and far between as the "something right" is, the something incredibly wrongs are so much more entertaining.
Glad you are finding them entertaining. We are really looking foward to something GOOD... If we expect something good and it ends up being another foundry, or worse Avalanche.......... We are all going to be very sad and dissapointed.
? I would appreciate any new map since it adds more variety. It will be like another Foundry because it will be easy to forge on. Avalanche is also another popular map to forge on; it's a matter of opinion. =s p.s. Rofl at Taj Mahal map. 5/5
Thanks for explaining what LOD was. I was tempted to ask urk, but you read my mind. @urk, this may give you a laugh. At first I thought that the screenshot had not been taken in game. Narrows is lighted in a similar fashion. I thought that this screen was taken in some program bungie builds their maps. (Out of curiosity do you actually build with forge or is it all computer designed?) After further thought, I think they are spheres with similar effects as filters but with a far smaller radius. Needless to say I'm very happy. So, urk or shishka wanna leak some info about the forge pallet? Edit: Realistically, a budget-glitch only gets you 50 dollars worth of budget. So, I think Mallet's Taj Mahal is feaseable.
Ahem, if it was forge it would have spawn points. Unless the specifically remove spawn points to make it look like an in game screencap, while being forge.... ARGH!!!
Check the join date, he's been here a while.... sorta. Why haven't we given him Respected status yet? Its originally from NBC... later mocked by Family Guy. Knowledge is power!
I thought you had to be respectful to earn it... This map has so many awesome possibilities... even without all the extra speculation. He joined today.
The obvious joke is obvious. I actually thought I had an account here a long time ago. I clearly remember posting a bit about Atlas before I opened it up to let people know in advance that it was coming. But when I went to log in today and discovered that not only was I unable to provide login credentials, but that my name wasn't on the member list, I realized perhaps that I had fabricated the entire thing for myself. My whole reality is now in question and I can only assume that none of you are actually real.
Your account was probably lost in the move to the new site, there was a lot of confusion going on then, but I remember you being around. I thought your join date said 2008, no joke intended, lol.
Tis the internet after all. Hmm, and I thought you were going to respond to rusty with something like, "Yeah, there'll be Warthogs, Mongooses, n battle rifles on Sandbox." =D
