Call Dr Arroway, because NASA has detected a deep space sound that defies belief or any explanation. They don't have a single clue about its origin, according to Alan Kogut from the Goddard Space Center: The universe really threw us a curve. Instead of the faint signal we hoped to find, here was this booming noise six times louder than anyone had predicted. According to NASA, "the source of this cosmic radio background remains a mystery". It's not primordial stars, it's not any known radio source, and in fact, the problem here is that there is "not enough radio galaxies to account for the signal". In other words, nothing in the known cosmos is capable of producing this deafening sound. University of Maryland at College Park's Dale Fixsen—part of NASA's ARCADE team— says, that to get this kind of signal, "you'd have to pack [radio galaxies] into the universe like sardines. There wouldn't be any space left between one galaxy and the next". So in more scientific terms: They don't have a flying frak about what the hell this may be. The sound has been detected by ARCADE, a balloon-borne probe which is chilled to 2.7 degrees above absolute zero. The instrument itself is inside a tank of 500 gallons of liquid helium to reach that temperature, which is the same temperature as the cosmic microwave background radiation. Space: NASA Detects Mystery Booming Sound In Deep Space, Origin Unknown
Interesting. I don't know if this is the same sound, but I read that since it is in the future, we may be looking at an inter-galactic battle into the future. Oh, and I loved the movie reference. Can't tell ya what movie l, but I've seen it a gajlliom times. Contact maybe?
Nice find. The aliens could be conspiring a plan... Or just listenin' to some hip beats XD I'm not completely disagreeing but I don't think sound waves can travel back in time. Meh, it would be sort of cool though. It's a big, big universe - it may be coming from life somewhere else, or it may even be from the past. In which I mean the sound waves may only be reaching us right now.
I'm sorry that's what I meant, the past. Not the future. But I think you contradicted yourself (sort of), at first you said sound waves can't travel back in time, which is true they just take such a long time to reach us that they are already far in the past, so it is like it is in the past. Interesting though, but I'm sure we will never find out what it is (in our lifetime anyway).
By this I mean that the sound could have happened, say 1,000,000 years ago and because the origin was so far away, the sound waves have just reached us now. And to clear it up: Sound waves will only ever come from the past or present - not the future Now both of us won't get utterly confused =)
Dear God! I think this man has got it! Either it's the battles in space or that introduction music with the yellow writing! 0.0 On topic again - a plausable explanation which I fount on the link from the original post would be that 'aliens' are sending these sound waves to us, on purpose. Like we send sound into space hoping for a reply, they may doing the same or even sending this to us as a complaint for all of the racket we send into space.
All those damn 12 year olds screaming into the mics But I think I have this figured out, it has to be Elvis coming back to earth with Jesus and Hitler!
Probably just a covenant destroyer slipping back into our dimension preparing to glass us heretics. Hazza's explanation is good...
True there, I'll give you that PlugInFriend 1 - 0 Hazza Whatever our crazy scientists send up into space, I'll agree with you, it probably isn't sound then. After looking through my school Physics book I remember that it isn't sound, but it may indeed be an electromagnetic wave. It is probable that these waves may be radiowaves, microwaves (or just about anthing from the electromagnetic spectrum except visible light) but us humans may register it, but converted as sound. Those pesky scientists and their complex methods...
Thats strange maybe we arn't alone. Who knows maybe little green men will be here soon. Probably something ordinary though.
Radio Waves can, and on many different frequencies. They travel just like rays of light, or microwaves (which can be emitted by different things in the universe). We just use a device that scans and picks up these random radio waves. While you may not be able to hear it in space, it's still there.
I saw this in a movie once! The noise was old radio transmissions of hitler returning back to earth. And I'm serious, I saw this in a movie.
Now I'm no expert when it comes to space but I'm always interested in it. At the top of the post, it says that it's no known radio source, so how can it be radiowaves? It may be electromagnetic waves but since NASA says they don't know what it is, maybe we should send Hazza to the USA and help them identify this strange sound. However, it could also be Extra Terrastrials trying to communicate back with us, since that we have sent satellites all over the Galaxy, maybe they're trying to say, "From this day fourth, we are at war with Earth". >:| I remember watching a documentory about Space and some NASA scientists sent a satellite up into space to tell the "ET's" where we are in the Universe and what we look like. The satellite shown a picture of a man and woman, (with no clothes :O) so maybe they want to come in peace or want to kill us all for sending naked people pictures to them. We do have solutions however, MathMatics (Sorry about spelling) is the language of the Universe you know. I'm agreeing that maybe "they" are trying to respond back to our messages that we have been trying to send to them. I for one belive in Extra Terrastrials. If they want war, KILL EM' ALL! I'm only 12 by the way. (13 February 3rd) Also, the FBI have ET's locked up in Area 51. Where it is said that Humans interrogate them for vital information about their race's location. It is also believed that Humans and ET's work together to build underground cities. This info is not 100% true BTW.
It's just the sound of the first death star blowing up, either that or Anakin crying/bitching about Padme dieing.
