about 2 years ago I bought a compaq computer and didint use it for almost a year becuase i did not have internet. so about a year and a month of owning it i decided to install GTA:SA to play and it said "GTA san andreas cannot find a sound card so i tried installing the sound card manually and it still didint work so i decided to open the panel on the right side and there was no sound card! it was just not there so when i called them they said that i had owned the computer for a year and could not replace it becuase the warranty had expired. so about a month later a bought a HP laptop and the built in modem did not work! but the laptop was new so they replaced the hole computer but i ended up selling it on ebay for $600 and bought a Toshiba sattelite and its awsome only problem is the graphics card gets really hot when i play CS:S so you should think twice about purchasing anything made by HP

Why buy an HP/Compaq from the beginning? Dell, ftw. It has a wonderful record of not having many defects. And the XPS series is beyond the comprehension of awesome.

And of course, if you need a computer cheaper than others, Dell does have some cheap yet powerful computers.

    Just opinion.

Senators are usually evil, it's no surprise that it did. Lawl.

But really, that's the only bad thing I recall from a dell computer. It was a Sony battery wasn't it?

****. You lost me. Something about having a 2-year old Compaq, then an HP, then selling it, then buying a Toshiba, then how your sperm got nuked by Counter Strike Source.

I have a nightmare HP story for all of you folks. My GF bought an HP computer for college, and it had been acting up here and there with a few errors every now and again. I thought they were being caused by Vista. The computer started over heating and it got the blue screen of death. So she calls HP and they send out a box to her, and she ships it back off to them.

About a week later she reads that the motherboard needed to be replaced, along with the battery and AC power adaptor.... and that none of these were covered by the warranty...which would bring the grand total of the repair to $600....bullshit.

So I call up HP and explain that hardware is covered in their warranty...and after an hour of bitching them out and speaking to a manager of some sort I got them to repair the unit for free. They better have.

So she gets her laptop back....and low and behold it still has the same exact problem as before....except now the laptop is out of warranty by a week. So I call HP back up and tell them that they didn't fix the laptop correctly. They tell me they'll fix the computer for free, it just needs to be sent back to them....

So they get the computer back and after talking to someone they confirm that the computer will be fixed for free. So a day later I check the status online, and low and behold they're charging $700 for repairs again....

So, I call them back up, and they begin to claim that the laptop has water damage (bullshit), so I ask to speak with a manager of some sorts. I was told that they weren't available and that they'd have to call me back. Its been a few days and there has been no call. The computer still hasn't been fixed and its been over 2 months....

    NEVER BUY HP....EVER!

HP has nice computers, but they have really bad support for them. Like my dv6000. Turns out that every 1 in 7 of these laptops have a motherboard failure that causes them to lose wireless functionality. I would, of course, love to ship it in, but it turns out that they'd just replace the faulty motherboard with another faulty motherboard.

yeah dell FTW, their customer service is great, when i got my new 500 dollar desktop and i was playing some game or anouther, ther colrs of the screen and such started getting messed up, so i calle my next door neighbor and he came over, delecateley took apart the outside of my comp, and it turns out that the heat sink on the card snapped in half! so we called dell support, and waited on hold for like 45 min (all for a good cause) we got to an operator, told him our name, and the problem, it took less than 5 minutes, they didnt even ask us to send the card back. two days later, i get a package in the mail and it's the new card. it works fine now but my computer still lags a bit because vista uses up too much ram or some **** like that, but back to the point, dell is great

That's good that you had a good experience with Dell, but I haven't heard too many good stories like yours. As a matter of fact, the only company that seems to have continual good customer service is apple.

I think its partially because they help you in person at the store (if you have one near you)...which makes things better for everyone. Its more convenient, and the person helping you speaks english.

My family just got a new HP desktop for Christmas, and you scare me with this? Not cool. I hope nothing happens to my computer.
