So I've been taking an AP EURO class which is just a college course in high school that gives me a college credit, and I learn about all of these new discoveries and ideas that people were finding out. Of Course everyone has in their mind, whether they say it or not, "Wow, they were stupid". But wait....how do we know that our ideas are correct. Could people a hundred years from now be looking at our laws of physics and be saying "Ha! They believed in gravity!" The only reason I would disagree with my own topic is all of the things that we have done with our laws of physics, science and philosophy, so far like surgeries and space exploration. I don't know, but it makes me wonder. Please discuss. Love, Zachary9990
Of course people in the future will find us ignorant. It is natural progression. Just as we saw people 100 years ago ignorant, and those people found the people 100 years before them ignorant. I do not believe my ideas or any one elses ideas are the end all be all. I am not as ignorant to believe that everything we know is truth, but I won't stop believing in say gravity until it is proven there really is no gravity.
Things like sexism, racism, etc. will be viewed as ignorant in the future by everyone. And fad diets will be viewed as ignorant; maybe some of our activities too.
Honestly this is probably almost as far as we're going to go. I mean we've kinda explored most things, (OMG I know they said that when people traveled across the world in a big wooden boat) But think about it. Everyone hates everyone, countries are in different wars across the world, Nine states have successfully detonated nuclear bombs. We have a stockpile a mile tall. Honestly if we dont bomb our ****ing brains out back to the stone age I'll be suprised. So no, I think people will look back and wish they were like us now.
Either we will be looked upon as primitive, or we will become classic. Where everybody wishes that the style of living is how it is today.
Ignorant - lacking knowledge or information as to a particular subject or fact. Yes they were. And yes we will be in 100 years. Does that mean our scientific discoveries are wrong? No. We are just unaware of future ideas. That doesn't mean what we believe now is obsolete. Just like the ideas of the past proposed by: Newton, Einstein, Luther, King Jr., Hemingway, Paine, Boyle, Feynman, Aristotle, Jesus Christ, etc are not obsolete.
As the human race progresses, old information is outdated and disproved, as new ideas emerge and advance. This is of course a natural process which makes those before us seem ignorant and after us genius. There is no avoiding this, as we make due with the information that we have, and allow others to build upon previous knowledge. If we chose to always accept "proven" fact than we will never advance, so in order to continue the process we must disprove and build upon all that we thought was set in stone. Those who believe that we will soon reach a point where we know all are ignorant, as mysteries of the universe will continue to be uncovered as long as intelligent life continues.
Sure people will think the past was obsolete, but who knows? maybe in the future the past will be found to be nonexistant and only the present is real lol idk
I disagree with that Jelly: Archaeologists study artifacts of the past daily to further our knowledge of past civilizations and their technology. We may even learn a thing or two from them. I assure you that this will not become a lost practice.
I don't think anyone was ever "ignorant". I think that given their limited knowledge about the world they were really quite advanced for their time. I think primitive is a better term, it fits more with what your describing.
No...it means they're wise. We will always be ignorant, but acknowledging it is a step in the right direction.
D: I must not be wise then. Back on topic, In history class we were learning about the plague. Nearly half of the population of Europe died. The Europeans had many different reasons for the plague, and ways to prevent it. We know now that most of them were wrong, but we really still don't know how to cure or prevent it. Think about it. We try many different things to try to "cure" or treat cancer, including smoking weed. Maybe in 500 years, People will say, "They had cancer, so they smoked weed?"
No, they won't. Weed has been shown to have a positive effect on cancer and cancerous tumors. People of the future would probably say to some affect, "wow, good call, though, they should have done this, this and this." They would know we were ignorant of different solutions but they would still accredit us with a solution.
