Yeah, you can disprove stuff in the bible, but there actually is some real legit history buried under the "miracles". Also, you are only taking into account the bible and not any other religious texts/beliefs. While you can point out discrepancies in the bible, you still can't say God definitely doesn't exist because of that. He might exist, just maybe not like whatever the bible says he is like..
History in the bible is just context and a lot of it is incorrect or opinionated. I would not recommend reading the bible as a historical reference.
I agree with almost everything you said exept for this: The point made here does not have so much to do with the institution of slavery, which the author does not challenge, but with the nonviolent reaction of slaves to unjust treatment. Their patient suffering is compared to that of Jesus, which won righteousness for all humanity.* *Taken from USCCB - NAB - 1 Peter 2 EDIT: Quote: Originally Posted by smitty0018 You do realise that that was a complete joke right? Anyway, here's the guy that made the video. I'm starting to like his points and I've been leaning toward what he's saying for a while. Re: Banana's are Proof God Exists In the debate section, people's views should be based on facts, NOT JOKES. If you would've read my response to Zstrike, that guy was not basing his faith off of a joke. If you would've watched the video, you would've found out what he does base his faith on. Please actually do the research before you accuse me of things.
I'm just saying that just because the bible is wrong, that doesn't mean that God doesn't exist. He exists in many religions, so disproving the bible does nothing against God.
Correct, Christians are are taught not to question God, and to have faith that he exists and his son Jesus was the messiah. You could argue that it is just a distraction to hide something. Or somebody could go back into the bible and look for factual proof. But then they hit a stump. Or they can strike a breakthrough, or possibly conclude that is not enough to prove or disprove the existence of God(Agnosticism, kinda) Also some might say that it has been lost in history and the passage of knoledge, IMO there is no end to this debate based on a lack of facts on both sides. Alot of theories are occuring. But the existence of Jesus is a FACT.
Bring it uh.......that is exactly what I said here: The burden of proof is not on me. It's like me telling you to prove without a doubt that Dragons don't exist. You have to prove that they do. The bible is what started all of the nonsense, and so that's what I use to debunk.
Two men watch an eldery man fall over onto his side; the first man runs over to his aid while the second man laughs at the elderly man's misfortune. By your logic, there must be a better reason behind their separate reactions than "they just felt differently".
Like earlier stated God exists in many religions, but may be called different names. So we are talking about God. We are not talking about religions with multiple gods(the Greeks), we are talking about God
Yes, childhood circumstance, genetic abnormalities. Such a lack of humanity is disconcerting and I'd like to ask the man who laughed his reasoning behind it. I would assume he's sociopathic but without a proper interview, I wouldn't know. And I surmise the only reason you believe is because you were raised that way. I was too, I know what it's like and it's nothing to be ashamed or proud of, it's just not a rational way to base your entire ideology. So where were you going with that whole "feel differently" thing?
I honestly think that there is more information that disproves a god than proves one. Evolution makes way more sense than an old book written by primitive people.
Evolution has nothing to do with this. I could argue that I think that God gave the universe a push, and then evolution occurred. For the record even Darwin believes in God.
Thank you. @Smitty- The debate section is supposed to be serious, so everyone who posts in it will take everything seriously. So that video I took to be serious, even if the guy wasn't. And yes, I watched the reply vid, but that isn't the point, I'm not arguing against that guy and his beliefs, but that I took the vid seriously because you posted it in the debate section.
Come now. The debate section can be fun too. There's nothing wrong with a joke here and there (just don't make a habit out of it )
God Without Religion You are separating God from the bible, or any other religious text. Evolution is very relevant when talking about god. I think your theory about God giving the universe a push is good, but it is completely against any established religion, including Christianity. Do you consider yourself a Christian?
Sorry about that then... OT: As for the whole evolution thing. I personally am a firm believer in both evolution and God.
Yes I consider myself a christian but am open to ideas and thoughts about it. And separating God from the bible is not unheard of, like I said, books that have been around for as long as the bible have lost their context.
I don't believe you understand, makisupa. Really now. Once again, (as I have done in previous debates) I must reiterate: just because one person happens to have a few disagreements with the majority of their religion, that does not mean that they are no longer part of their religion. Not all people adhere to every word of their religion; that is called fundamentalism. Even though someone is part of a religion, they can still have some disagreements, yes? That is why people grow and gain better understanding. DO NOT confine anyone to stereotypes. Why is the idea of a God wrong if the bible is wrong? God is not the bible. You cannot say he doesn't exist because someone decided to make crap up about him. Let's say you were God. You made the universe or whatever, blah blah blah. I was born years later, but I wondered how everything was made; then I BSed something and called it a religion. Is God wrong because someone threw dust before the truth?
