So for college I've decided to get an iMac. I'm not open for discussion about mac vs pc, I'm keeping my pc and taking it with me. For the Mac I want to do all of my word processing and charts and graphs. Should I get iWork (70$ *edu discount) or Office '08 (159 *edu discount)? Is office worth the money? Does iWork work?
hmm i would spend the money on MS office i would would not take any risks with iwork although it seems nice i myself would not risk it
iWork is the application created by Apple, so I don't think there is any risk involved and I think it would run faster on its native system. I'm wondering if the file formats or some unforeseen problem would make Office the better choice.
I think you should get iWorks. It does the same type of things as office does, and generally you're going to be able to get better support for it if you need it.
Bro, go with linux. ubunut has gotten me through some money savers.....Nothing is wrong besides the fact that i deleted my whole ipod.... BUT thats besides the point Try it out. Either that, or go with office with the edu discount...its there I'm pretty sure
Have you tried OpenOffice.org? It works with all major operating systems. I'm using it on my PC because Office 2000 is fried. I like it a lot though, why? Free!
OpenOffice is horrendously slow, and loves to crash every other minute. If you can, get either iWorks or Office.
If your use to Microsoft Office, then I would definitely suggest it and if your not, I'd still suggest Microsoft Office.
Don't you use an unpopular OS? Not saying it's bad, but that's maybe why you're getting those problems. I use it all the time, and it's never crashed whereas Office crashes constantly.
Microsoft Office is very much worth it over iWork (unless iWork now supports .doc formats). I would try out open office (its free, so your really not losing much). Supposedly the new version (3.0) has way better mac support. You can also save in almost any format you can think of, so if you ever want to stop using Oo you can without a problem.
Here's an image of the formats that OpenOffice Writer supports: Very useful! Also, they constantly release minor updates for new formats and extensions. =)
