...That forge is a good map editor because it takes skill, really, it's just hard to use and full of flaws. A map creator/editor should never be based on skill, it is a tool that everyone should be able to access and use effectively. What's equally annoying is that people also say forge is superior to Farcry 2's maker, because forge takes time and you "don't need to put effort in" on farcry. Seriously, it's common sense.

EDIT: Aw crap, clicked on the wrong section.

That is completely based on your conception of 'skill'.

I don't mean to put you off, but this discussion is just not going to be a success.

Where do you want this moved?

Anyone CAN use forge effectively, they just need to take the time to practice and get good at it. If they make a crappy map with a horrible layout and botched weapon placement, no "AWESOME SUPER MAP EDITOR" will save that.

Or theirs, forge just takes patience IMO.

The point is that people argue that forge is harder to use, more limited and takes more time, therefore making it better. Does that make sense to you?

limited yes, but it allows anyone with an imagination to create a full map out of virtually nothing. Far cry 2s map editor allows you to create a forest. YAY!

The possibilities arent as limited as everyone imagines. It just takes patience, and i think the inability to churn maps out is keeping them better.

I don't want this to turn into an argument about which one is better, if you'd played farcry you would know that you can get objects just like Halo's. Forging is only getting harder, competitive maps basically come off of a production line, so it is becoming more inaccessible to the general population of halo. Yes, you and a few others can use it very well, but if only a few can utilise it to its full extent, why should that make it better?

im not arguing, i havent even gotten mad yet :(

    lol

anyone can do the things I and other members do. They merely need the patience, knowledge [provided] and imagination that we use. Its all there for everyone to use. How they use it is up to them.

My sentiments exactly. They are if you will two different philosophies of playstyles.

I know that you can't compare them, hence the misconception.
I'm just saying a map editor should be based off ease of use, not how hard it is.

Hmmm good debate points... I side with silencebroken... It is a map editor and I believe the purpose of map editor is to get you to use your imagination and create something completely original. Far Cry 2, which is a great editor don't get me wrong, can't be as original as the Forge. It is much harder to re-create Reflex, persay, than it would be to re-create a map on Far Cry. That can sometimes take much originality out of a map editor. Wow that was kind of a pointless ramble but I hope I got my point across... And Matty said it right, you can't really compare the two.

its not that its hard that makes everyone like it. in fact i cant really tell you why. i love forge. sure it could be better, anything could. however, im living in the real world, and i appreciate the fact that we even have a map editor. you were all happy in halo:ce and halo 2 without even a hint of an editor, and now that you have one, everyone is complaining on how it could be better.

im just rambling now, i probably wont return. :D

    Opinionated again.

I would say a map editor should be rated on how few restrictions it bestows on the players creativity.

I found that Far Cry still had a few restrictions. It's hardly perfect.

Forge does a lot of that. Ugh, I don't think people get my point.

So what is the purpose of this thread?

A soft rant to try and diminish all the soft rants that stopped ages ago?

So people realise that map editors/creators shouldn't be based off of difficulty.
They should be based on how comprehensive they are.

Or how exciting and accessible they are?

3Ds Max > everything else, but i don't see that appealing to the mass market.

    So what's your point?

If you are not arguing either game, then isn't this a bit useless?

Your trying to influence people into not being influenced by others opinions on the 2 games?

I am most definitely arguing for Farcry.
