Hey I've heard all the hype about how Far Cry 2's gonna be the next big game (especially for map-making) and I want to get the opinions of people here who a) own it or b) have at least played it. My friends didn't like the first one so I stayed away and no one I know has played 2. Is this one a definite buy, try before buy, or leave it and save up for another game?
Try it before the buy. but when you try it you will be addicted, so you will buy it. basically, buy it.
In all honesty, rent it before you buy it. I've seen people that say they hate it, and I've seen people that say they love it. It's one of the two extremes. You'll know within a few hours of playing whether you like it or not. It has it great moments, and it has its failures, but if you look past your normal run and gun FSP game and look deeper into the strategy of planning attacks and routes to objectives, you'll see that Far Cry is actually a really great game. And, if you liked Oblivion, R6:V2, COD4, BF:BC, or any combination of the sort, it is worth every cent. (And I don't even know why they called it Far Cry. It has absolutly nothing to do with prior games and is nothing like them.)
I've played Far Cry 1 and hated it. I've played the Far Cry for Wii and hated it. I'm not even going to try this one, but some people I know say it's great so who knows. I agree with the guy above me (sorry can't remember your name) rent it. I'm just going to get something else. GoW 2, CoD: WaW, GH: WT, Left4Dead, Deadspace, Fallout 3, and Fable 2 look promising.
Again. The two games are nothing at all alike. Think of Far Cry 2 as "Africa Adventure 2". Far Cry was just on the title for recognization factor.
Look at the threads in Far Cry Hub for some info you may find useful. Take a look at these threads, for example: and this one, http://www.forgehub.com/forum/farcr...about-your-first-experiences-fc2.htmlthis one.
how is the map editor for pc? really easy and nice to be able to use? and how much of a community is there for PC?
Cool guys thanks for the help. I'm still probably gonna rent it because I'm saving up for gears 2 and I don't know if I'll be able to afford both at the moment but I want to play this game so god damn bad!!
the map editor is unbelievably in-depth. the amount of land you are given is amazing, and there are i guess over 1,000 items. The most impressive is the terrain tools. you will spend most of the time shaping the land the way you want it, and making it look nice. I believe yes, the map editor is worth it, and as for the single-player, im not too far into it, and i have yet to enter multiplayer so idk.
