Who says a good map needs interlocking!
By far, this is the most awesome thing I have ever seen. I'm really considering getting the game now. Pretty much what I've always wanted!

You can build an effing forest!! That's just insane. I can't wait for this to come out, I will be spending a lot of time messing around with this map editor, I mean you can make your own terrain, a river if you wanted to.. The craziest part about this is the fact that you can alter the weather.. The WEATHER!! Once you have completed your map, Take a hand glider for a ride over your map to see where you need to improve, This is just pure genius.. Oh did I mention you can set the forest on fire and instead of the fire just going out, It will continue to spread and grow... My hat is off to ubisoft.. You have made one of the better map editors that I know of.

    lol interlocking

farcry allows u to put a damn building or object in the air if u want to without doing any tricks
so yes interlocking and geo merging as well call it it in forge is obvious
otherwise how would they make all the stuff we seen on the trailers thus far
    like the eiffel tower

This entire thread was created to compare and contrast far cry's upcoming map editor with halo's forge. So if that is not aloud; you might as go ahead and lock it.

This game looks amazing. I was not going to buy it but I might want to get it for Xmas.

And for comparing it to Halo's Forge, I think this game beats the Forge. Like changing the land and everything.

    Forgegasm much?

When I first saw the trailers for FarCry 2, I thought it looked good, but I always heard these great stories about how my friends had made these amazing maps in the original FarCry editor, and when I saw FarCry 2, it ok, but I noticed it was missing that crucial editor I wanted to see. Now that you just showed me that, my wants for getting Fracture and Gears of War II just flew out the window, and Dead Space. I'm saving as much money as I can, and I'm getting this thing before I'm effing getting Fable II.

And by the way, you made my jaw drop 30 feet below sea level. The "forge" in that is like God. Wait, it's better than God.....It's UBER GOD!!!

    Needs more interlocking. Not.

people are making it seem like Farcry never had a map editor. Why is everyone making a big deal out of it now?

Well the original was amazing, and with the addition of this amazing looking Map Editor, the game just looks all around better than some expected. Or that's what is for me.

Forge is more about appearance and I believe FC's editor will be more about gameplay due to the fact that good general appearance is already a given.

Well as visible from the trailer, it looks like you can actually edit terrain, which would and will totally pwn forge (srry but truth hurts), but i think that it will have downsides, because nothing is perfect. Even though this may come closer than we have seen. But for sure, I'm gonna get it just for the editor.

    Oh yeah, this owns Forge.

I made more than 30 maps for Far Cry Instincts, so this will be one hell of a time-consumer. I'll start with my favorite Forge creation, and then remake some FCI maps.

You can't compare forge with the map creater in Farcry.

    Halo's Forge= Map "editor"
Farcry's Map creater= Map "creater" (Duh, lol)

Yes, I'll admit the map editor in FarCry is greater than Halo 3's map editor. Currently.

I watched the video of the Farcry 2 map maker. To me, that isn't how I want to make maps. It may be fun to create your own terrain, but it doesn't really give you objects to create customizable structures. Another reason I wouldn't really buy Farcry 2 is because the gameplay seems like many other modern day shooters.

Halo 3, on the other hand, has a much more strategized and realistic gameplay. On the other video where I watched the actual gameplay, it seems so unreal. The guy gets shot at least 20 times and doesn't die while he just stands in 1 place, aims, and fires. Soldiers in real life don't just stand and shoot either. They try and find cover, etc. etc.

But this thread is about the map editor, and if I want to make my own terrain, I will use the WC3 map editor (and SC2 when it comes out)

And yes, I know people use forge to make some terrain, but not in the sense where they can edit a flat map into many hills and forests.

If you can think it, You can build it. I don't know what video you watched but I've seen a few and watched the editor first hand as a friend went through it, You can build pyramids, enormous building, Skyscrapers.. So I think saying you can't create customizable structures is a bit off target.

Uhh.. You're a super solider who is fighting an alien race. That seems way more realistic.. lol

You have shields in Halo... that's not realistic. If you actually do take cover and stuff and act like your really fighting, Far Cry is far more realistic and exciting to buy.

Far Cry has small pieces of structures you can use to build anything, just about any structure you imagine can be built. Any map that can be made in forge can be recreated, but better. The only thing from forge I don't know how to do yet is fencewalls, but I bet their are walls you can shoot through to, seeing as there are thousands of objects you can place. You can also make your map truly a brand new map, and really look that way too.

Have you played Warcraft III? The terrain editor lets you do nothing beyond painting it, which makes no difference, the main appeal of wc3 is the trigger editor and the other editors which allow you to setup games in it.

Which is why the terrain editor in Far Cry 2 is great, it takes no resources, and effects the terrain you will build your map on. You can also set boundaries, set water level, pick the screenshot preview for it, interlock objects without restarting rounds, setup death pits that always kill you, make your map as big or small as you'd like (allowing for large vehicle maps, or smaller on foot maps), it only lets people play the modes the maps setup for, there are thousands of objects for you to use, and much more.
