I happen to have a query that happens to be need'n an answer. Does anybody know whether or not you have to have a tablet for concept art. I also wonder whether it would be better to save up for a wacom tablet that has a screen on it ($1,400) or a wacom tablet that doesn't have a screen on it ($340), and which one would last me longer without the need to purchase a new one. If anybody can help me answer this thank you 'ery much. This is the $1,400 Tablet This is the $340 Tablet Here are two examples of concept art made in photoshop (view in full size):
In all honesty, a tablet is not needed for artwork like this. I know a guy who makes incredible digital paintings with just his mouse (check him out)! I have a wacom (the same one that you posted for 340$ that I got for 45$ at a local electronics store. It works really well for what it is, but if you're really serious about making large, high quality work, it would be better in the long run to invest in a higher quality tablet, such as the other one you posted. I've had my tablet for about four years and haven't needed to upgrade. The size of the drawing area relative to the size of your screen can take some getting used to, though.
Well right now I have the Bamboo Tablet by Wacom: It doesn't have the image on the screen, but it is so helpful with long-term projects. Using a mouse just creates hand-cramps and it's much harder to manipulate lines. Like creating a curve with a mouse is near impossible, but the tablet is just like drawing with a pen and paper(obviously). So I recommend you do get a tablet before you start a long-term project. It doesn't have to be a very expensive one. I think mine cost about $200 and it works perfectly.
So you just get used to drawing on something seperate than the screen and learn to estimate where your drawing with your ink tablet to the screen?
The pen acts as a mouse for the tablet. Moving the pen above the surface will more your cursor on screen, so you'll be able to see exactly where it is you'll be drawing on screen.
Sounds like a dream HR. I personally dislike using paint, canvas's, clay and other such stuff because it's too messy. Te mess irritate me
